IBM RA May 2020 - Consolidated Layoff Individual Updates

I've consolidated about 70 individual statements regarding the RA - I sc-aped data from this thread: @OP+154KgwW3 (IBM Layoffs in Progress (May 2020)) - https://www.thelayoff.com/t/154KgwW3?page=1

  1. GBS in US w 38 years. Same package as everyone below. I'm retirement age and feel fortunate. Did not see this coming tho. Wishing the best for everyone here.
  2. hey @1vnr I can confirm, Canadian working in the US... 11 years with IBM, great reviews... RA'd today.
  3. Got the axe today as well. 15 years with the company, age in upper 30s, and excellent end of year assessments. All US employees accross multiple squads and lines of business terminated. This was definitely one of the largest RAs in history.
  4. Almost 25 years with the company and boom. IBM is good - except for when you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, then they could care less. And couldn't they have waited a bit longer? The timing is awful.
  5. I was laid off today, along with all of the US employees in my group. However, the Canadian employees in my group, who have the exact same job, were not let go. This layoff seems to apply on to US workers, which is completely unfair.
  6. 5 years at IBM. 59 years old. Same package (30 days).
  7. 5+ Years at IBM RA'd today
  8. Got RA'd today too. 10 years with IBM. 30 day notice, then 3 month severance. 1 year eligible to buy insurance at IBM rates, then 1 year of COBRA.
  9. 13 years in Security, got RA'd today. I'm fortunate that I can transition to retirement, if I want/need to.
  10. Was RA'd a few hours ago. Not of retirement age, only been at IBM for 3 yrs. Fired from IAAS watson & cloud
  11. Laid off after five years with IBM. I was an information developer with Systems in Austin, Texas.
  12. I was just laid off today with 27 1/2 years. Most recent job in GTS org.
  13. 2 years into IBM Research employee with internal and external collaboration healthcare research projects RA'd today
  14. It happened to me today RA'd with a June 22 end date. Been with IBM for 3 years but really much longer as a prior Truven employee.
  15. My software team and I got RA'ed today in Systems. We are a small team but still unfortunately got cut. Have only been at IBM a couple of years. Heart goes out to all of you today and hope we'll all be able to find something soon in these crazy times.
  16. RA’d in Research, severance same as what others have described.
  17. I have worked for IBM for over 35 years, the past 25 on Db2 for z/OS development. My last day in June 22nd. I was caught off guard in the moment but have always known this day could come anytime
  18. RA'd from Cloud Managed Delivery - given the option to relocate to Missouri.. 30 days notice, 90 days severence. :eek
  19. I was just RA'd from Cloud Managed Delivery
  20. CHQ Marketing, 36 years with IBM, 59 yrs old, California Resident - Got 30 days notice so I don't think all California residents get the 60 days notice as mentioned earlier.
  21. I'm luckier than most; because, I can transition into Retirement.
  22. Same package as above, over 22 years with the company, which is over half of my life.
  23. Almost 39 years here. Named Best of IBM a couple of times within the past 5 years. Never a poor performance rating....but that doesn't matter. My age does. To make sure there isn't an age discrimination uproar they offered most of us over 60 the option to work in Columbia, Missouri.
  24. Sr Client Representative GTS Healthcare + Life sciences - Orange County, CA - 3 years with the company - always had great reviews - laid off today
  25. 5 years in SaaS and severed as well; our product was acquired but we were told we would have job security still AND contracted through June 2021
  26. 5 years of service, excellent performance, the most senior person on my team and a wife who is battling stage 3 breast cancer. Great timing during a pandemic.
  27. I am with GTS (Project Manager) & 22 years with IBM. I received same package as others - June 22 last day with 90 day severance package. Now that IBM is cutting costs, who will be around to help them on the revenue side.
  28. Just got notified almost 2 hours ago. 6 years. ATX
  29. Impacted legal group
  30. RA notice today in Cognitive Systems marketing after only 13 months with the company. Not too far from retirement age and feeling glad I beefed up my skills (AWS!) in the past year.
  31. Five years or so with the company out of college so on the younger side. in software and cut, with 30 days notice
  32. 25 years with IBM, GTS program management. As a California resident, I was told that I get 60 days to separate rather than 30. All other elements of the RA package same for me as reported by others.
  33. 52 years old - 25 years with IBM - RA'd today. IBM Cloud Labs
  34. 21 years great reviews almost 60. Really s—s
  35. Working GTS, got let go after many yrs working in cloud. Never ever a bad review. Was told other teams will now perform my job functions... cheap laber out of Poland and India SO?
  36. Was informed this afternoon. RA'd. In e-mail "... IBM is now taking structural actions that are critical to our long-term competitiveness." Retirement age after 18+ years of service.
  37. How do I know, I've been laid off? I had a 1:1 all of a sudden and informed about there may be some lay off in the team but my manager did not tell that is me. Is the severance package is same across with no respect how long you serve in the company? I am less than an year old with this company I am sorry to see and hear this news and its very unfortunate.
  38. My friend's entire US team got RA'd today. He was offered to move to Missouri if he wanted to stay with IBM. We lost four people from my team.
  39. RA'd in Austin from Cognitive Apps, SW dev. Same terms as already posted.
  40. RA'd from Marketing with over 35 years. Ready to retire anyway just not the way I wanted to go
  41. My team hit today. Last day is June 22. 12 months health at "discount" rate, and 3 months severance package if you sign some restrictions. I am 34 years with IBM, and they gave me 30 days to find another job within IBM, that I am sure everyone will be fighting for.
  42. MY friend just go RA'd today as well after 22 years... She is in her early 40s.
  43. TSS, over half our team was also affected
  44. Same here, TSS... 25yrs w/IBM. Was offered to move to Columbia MS?!!??
  45. RA’d today from GTS after 23 years while on “mandatory vacation”
  46. Same here last day on 22nd June. Such a bad timing. With covid-19 situation, it will be hard to find new opportunities.
  47. One of my parents worked at yorktown, 1:1 meeting, laid off today
  48. Got RA'd this morning...at YKT Research 14 yrs...over 55...just the beginning...
  49. 2 years in IBM Research, got raise (25%) and promotion after 1 year, excellent performance. Got urgent meeting this morning about lay-off, 2 months notice + another 3 month salary
  50. Layoffs in Research (Yorktown) as well.
  51. IBM Systems, 38 years, same package. A relief in the end; my heart goes out to those for whom it is not.
  52. I was laid off too part of IBM cloud. I am retirement age in theory so I have to wonder. June 22nd same as others.
  53. SIH Technical Sales , same as everyone else
  54. GTS AM, with company for 14 years, definitely not age related as I am one of the younger ones.
  55. People in Cloud and Cognitive SW got hit also - I left in 2019 (also RA'd) - that's what I am hearing from friends that are still there. Bad timing.
  56. RA'd today - the severance terms are as reported before - Solution Architect, Foster City, CA
  57. In CHQ just got 30 day notice too... 9 years with company, excellent performances in all positions, got the standard 90 day package being offered.
  58. Confirmed GTS SO layoffs. Standard package no matter if you were there three years or 30 years. was offered to move to be move to Austin to find new, potential role. 30-days paid, 3-month buyout if I do not move, medical at IBM rate then COBRA rate. Like everyone else!
  59. With co for 26 years. Not age related.
  60. Cloud Platform seller 22 years, 30 days notice, 90 days pay lump sum and 12 months of health insurance at IBM rate, then can bridge to Cobra for another 18 months.
  61. 30 days notice,90 days pay, health extensions. short time with company though 28 yrs old.
  62. Over 7 years of service, clean file and solid checkpoint reviews and still got ejected while at the same time they hired several outsourced people abroad.
  63. Also notified, 30 days notice, 90 days pay, Over 65 which seems to be the thing
  64. GTS PE and I just got the AXE too after 14 years. What a shame. What rotten timing too. You give so much to this company and they have no respect for loyalty.
  65. Just laid off, 30 days etc as others have mentioned - been at IBM 24 years
  66. Cloud Services here. 30 days notice.
  67. Also in GTS, MCMP. RA'd today. Wonder what the extent of it is. How many, what MCMP gps, etc.

I was suppose to be RA'd back a few years ago and had 90 days to find a new job. Fortunately, I landed a new assignment in a different group with several days to spare before I would have been officially RA'd. My saving grace is that I had some vital executive contacts who were willing to hire me back and to fight to get me off the RA list as an special exception. I am so grateful that these executive were able to fast path the escalation, overcome the terrible HR executive review process and justify bringing me back into the group. My comment to those folks who are going to try to look for a new assignment within the 30 day period, please make sure you have a high level senior executive contact who will be willing to fight for you and hire you to improve your chance of success Good luck to all of you who are going to try to find a new assignment.

SG, 33 years, same package as others. Not age or job related. I was planning on retiring (old plan, yeah, I know I'm old) early next year so knowing I had an exit strategy I decided to make a 3rd line mgr look like an @$$hol3 by pointing out his lack of knowledge in front of his peers a few weeks ago...and yeah, it still feels really good! Funny, I thought I'd be sad, but actually I'm feeling liberated and relieved now that the BS is out of the equation in time to do some serious trout fishing! Good luck to everyone affected...I know in the long run we'll all look back and wonder why/how we ever put up with IBM's lack of respect for the individual.

Just be aware that the Missouri job can "disappear" next month and you'll be stranded in the middle of nowhere!

So sad. It’s like reading the death list after a disaster. Well done G.R. More heads to cut and obscene bonuses await you at JPMC.

Sad post, but those who were offered jobs in Missouri at least have that option.
IBM = Ive Been Moved, which is not the end of the world.
Everyone is working remote now anyway so you'd be nuts not to accept that offer.
