IBM has not said anything publicly, so I would check the checkbox and let IBM say that it wasn't. Either way, you have a month before you can do anything.
According to management I talked to, this was not a Covid layoff which means you can not check the box that gives you the extra 600. I know that benefit is about to expire but it could be extended. Manager also confirmed the list of names was submitted in Feb and then stalled and that they did not hear it was on again until last week. So that matches the rumors. We also had managers let go including at least one 3rd line. For many of the managers that were let go they were let go with their entire team.
IMHO, based on IBM history, the only way we have another big layoff or other big cuts if its COVID related since IBM typically only has one major layoff a year and its typically in the spring
Not sure where the person got the Aug date from but I guess that would make sense if its based on how IBM reacts to how Covid effects 2nd quarter and that hit is due to Covid vs the restructuring of the company
Everyone is just guessing here, based on past performance. But, if I were to also guess, I would say Q1 2021 is the next major house cleaning.
Although, I would also counter by saying last year, they did two rounds only two months apart - June/August. I'm still scratching my head trying to reason out that one. Maybe they forgot to include some people in round 1 and came back to get 'em in round 2. It was the same divisions (and even same exact group in some cases!!) both times. - if anyone else has an idea on that last bit, I would love to hear it.

Some folks commenting here about visas and foreigners ought to be ashamed of themselves. But in truth, I'm not sure they are not some bots stirring the pot or just outsiders who do not even work for IBM using this opportunity to spew hate and nationalism. Either way....admins.....hello?
Can only speak for power divison. My dept has lost people for four years in a row in the spring, so I suspect the next one will be spring 2021. Then again our sales before covid were suppose to be the lowest in years and now with covid I would not be surprised if ibm does another lay-off for covid reasons or does something like suspend 401k match and raises similar to what some other companies are doing.
No further rounds in 2020.
