Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Have You All Figured It Out Yet?

If Thu/Fri comes and goes and furloughed employees have still not heard a word about their livelihoods (because we are the “magic” of Macys, remember?), I think it is pretty obvious that JG and the gang would love for us to voluntarily resign so the company is off the hook on severances.

If we get into July and still have not heard anything, many furloughed people (particularly the hourly associates) are going to begin getting nervous about the federal unemployment running out July 31st and likely will begin looking at other jobs. Which is exactly what Macy’s corporate is literally banking on. Scare people into other jobs (remember the job postings with other retailers on InSite right after the shutdown?) so they don’t have to pay out severances.

But corporate pay will be restored on July 1, so all is well in New York City.

Severance is not guaranteed, or required from the company. Severance packages are to provide goodwill when letting somebody go. Not really sure that Macy’s is in a place to be able to worry about that at this point. Unfortunately, things will probably look different this time around. And not for the better. Just the opinion of someone eliminated in February. Good luck all!

They could just let our benefits expire and send us cobra info. Just saying they don’t have to do anything.

The corporate pay being restored is for Director and up. The rest of us in corporate are still furloughed and just as in the dark as you. So all is not well in NYC. There's also no need to turn this into stores vs corporate either because there are plenty of us in this together.

Not necessarily. PT doesn’t receive health insurance benefits anyway, and don’t think they won’t try something like “suspending” coverage for furloughed FT mgrs and selling team.

Again - anything to get us out the door w/o severance.

Hope you are right though. Just have no faith in this company to do the right thing. Wonder where I got that idea?

Yeah they could not say anything and keep us on furlough, but wouldn't that mean they would continue paying health benefits? Which they are not going to do indefinitely.

They will let every one of us know our fate by Friday.

Legally you are right. There isn’t any specific time frame for furloughs it could last a year. Let’s hope they have more class than this. They have already said you can and should look for other jobs.
