Does anyone know the number of employees laid off? Macy’s has been very misleading with their press release stating that they’ve laid off 3900 corporate jobs, and dating that it is 2% of Macy’s employee population. Why do they not tell the press that the also laid off a much larger number of hourly and store colleagues? How do we call them out for this???

The corporate jobs are higher wage and save the company more money so they want to parade those numbers for investors. Our VP always told us she can’t release exact number of layoffs. The ones in stores are being swept under the table.
I believe the WARN notice requirement is not percentage of those employeed, but total # of employees to potentially effect state unemployment and other services.
I was laid off and I was informed that 30% of the overall staff in our store was laid off. This is much larger than they are reporting in the news. I guess they don’t want to incite a panic.
Asked on the percentage of our staff laid off in my store I would guess the total number is much closer to 30,000
Fact! When there are major layoffs effecting state unemployment agencies and services beyond, corporations are required to send a WARN notice. With nationwide entities, maybe the particular requirements weren’t met, (state by state).
What is more misleading is the way they layoff people. Got insite message that said my position is impacted aka eliminated but another position is avaliable for me to apply and ur PL will discuss with you. My PL is MTM and his position is eliminated too.....
And it’s Macy’s INC - which includes Bloomingdales in that number !!
And yes , They don’t have to report any specifics.
Fact: They weren't required to release ANY statistics!
