I see one that’s ... different. With someone higher up and a talent specialist - What does it mean?
Are they breaking it to me gently? Is this a promotion in the weirdest time possible?

Everyone I know Who was RIFd (including me, btw) had a meeting with a Sr Director or VP and a talent specialist, sorry to say.
Can't answer your question, but damn, if it happens to be a promotion (or anything other than a RIF, really), what a dumb way to go about it. Call a mysterious meeting during a time when everyone figures that means you're getting laid off. At least wait until the all-clear for this round of RIFs, if that's what's happening.
