Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

We are looking at major layoffs

Nike lost $790 million in the last quarter due to the coronavirus pandemic. And while it was to be expected, don't think this will end with no layoffs. They'll have to take some measures to stem the losses and the easiest way to do that is through layoffs.

I'd expect an announcement of major cuts sometime soon.

You’re delusional if you think the sales impact is from Kaepernick and not COVID...

@1tse+15EWRUxy great observation. I think Nike should start with its own house first then look to the broader community. In fact, if every household did the same thing, the world would be in a better position than it is now.

Interviewed at Nike a few years ago and was astonished how many directors and Sr directors I had to panel interview with who seemed to have redundant roles and responsibilities. All in their mid twenties, white, and ex athletes. I left wondering who the hell was doing the actual work...current company makes a ton more profit with a fraction of the people. Sounds like there is still a ton of fat to be trimmed but sorry for all the folks who have to enter this job market.

But somehow we still have the funds to donate 140 million over the next few years to social justice causes

That is so true!
Many families from the US Army bases in Germany decide to stay after their deployment because the quality of life is so much better...

Not sure about staying at Adidas your entire life as the CEO is apparently a real SOB...
Definitely true about a life outside work: Germans get 28 paid holidays + 12 public holidays = 7-8 weeks a year! I really don't get why so many people are lining up to work in the US.

Those Commies. I'm sure they even expect their employees to spend their whole career at Adidas and have a life outside of work.

@fxq+15EWRUxy yes, I hope there will not be any layoffs as well. However, there will be layoffs...many people will be impacted, sadly. Nike is a bad place so this could be a new start for may people despite the COVID-19 Pandemic. Best of luck to you and to all.

I am refusing to believe there will be job cuts. It may, but I HOPE NOT... I cannot lose this job now.

This was said by @prg and has to be repeated often

Most importantly, Nike will not take care of you. You are on your own.

Adidas received multi-billion dollar loans from the socialist German government on the condition that they are not firing any employees. You get what you vote for!

This applies to a job at any well-known company, but especially a place like Nike.

Don't become complacent. Always use your job at Nike as a stepping stone to something better. Always approach your work with the goal of taking away from it something you can use to those ends, whether it's at Nike or another company. Use the Nike name to get your foot in the door and always be interviewing so you know what you need to focus on getting out of your time at Nike.

Most importantly, Nike will not take care of you. You are on your own.
