IBM sues to stop a former executive from working for Microsoft

IBM, he explained, is highly centralized, and even though he was a senior executive he was not
empowered to make basic managerial decisions without corporate approvals.

“I attempted to change the highly centralized corporate culture at IBM, but after several years of
trying, I came to realize that my efforts were futile under the current leadership.”

So one hydra head cut itself off from the body: many more to go.

He is one of the best IBM executives ever... 25 years at IBM.
From the article : "After leading GTS, he was made general manager of integrated accounts, where he was responsible for overseeing the 77 most valuable customers."

Good riddance. Rodrigo was such a negative influence on GTS. Under his leadership, his business unit shrank, lost major contracts and continued to operate like 1980s. One of the first things Mark Foster did when he was asked to lead IBM Services is to replace Rodrigo who was then assigned to do nothing (other than collecting his salary). The last RA in the US impacted GTS much more than any other IBM units and Rodrigo is to blame. You cannot lead an army to defeat and assume you won't be blamed! Good riddance...

Wow, the truth comes out. Quite alarming and telling about the IBM management structure. No wonder it is such a calcified company. No change allowed without top level approval. Much, much worse than the military.

In other news, large corporations are in favor of free markets, open competition, and minimizing government interference in business...

  • until something they don't like happens to them, when they will ask the government to bring the full fury of laws and regulations to their aid.
