Throughout the last 15 years or so, CBU has been on a roller coaster ride seemingly in some frenetic phase of expansion or contraction every 3-5 years and the strings are being pulled by Corp rather than CBU.

The saddest aspect of this "go/stop" cycle.is that they have employed a really great set of people.

CoVid notwithstanding, I suspect that if bundled up as an independent, it could favorably compete in Canada as a mid-size .

The only ones criticizing places like "AMBU & GOM" i.e. @1tpx, are typically the ones who are getting ready to be laid off and couldn't even cut it in those places, and likely have an axe to grind because a supervisor from there expected them to actually perform, and they couldn't.

Canada is no good for Chevron. There have been several projects cancelled over the years and just before startup. Bad luck or bad place to do business, take your pick. Anyways, I’m in favor of cutting CBU 100% and pulling out of Canada completely.

Finally, I am glad to see a leaner CBU. For the level of activity in the last two years this unit is over-staffed. The last number i recall was 450ish employees in the CBU payroll. Come on! Competitors with more acreage and more rigs running on have a lot less ppl! It is truly disappointing to see the old guys just waiting retirement while the work is done by few younger staff.
Hopefully i am wrong, but I see cvx exiting canada in the near future, the only decent activity left is duvernay (which is pretty marginal at current commodity prices). Every time exploration come up with a new project, it is rejected from our parents down in america. Anyway, im thankful cvx has let me gain valuable professional experience with great benefits

I guess it's hard to forget a country descending into chaos ravaged by covid19 where other first world countries have flattened the curve, protests of racial injustice, mass shootings, no universal healthcare and a government that doesn't look after its citizens.

I think the rest of the world remembers it as the country you'd rather live in North America.

The baseline in Canada is two weeks per year, but I think we are offering closer to four or six weeks per year depending. Employees were able to reach out to HR before submitting to understand what the package looks like. Everyone I know that asked went for it because it was worth it (some of these people are mid-career).

Yes, FC mentioned almost 15% at the last town hall. It’ll be interesting to see how well this centralized support model works. I’ve always had issues with a US-based central support model as it often works much differently in Canada and what the center comes up with doesn’t work here. Takes a lot of effort to get them up to speed, which essentially removes any anticipated efficiencies. I’d rather use Canadian third party firms for support.

Yes I think it was about 13-14% of the 35% was EOIs, still a big cut, not much of a BU left, they are really hoping "the center" is going to be able to support them.
