I worked in a commission department part time. My sales were better than one of the full time people. Both full times quit in February, so I was the only one in the department.

They were going to make me full time right when the shut down happened.

Never called back, furloughed turned into permanent layoff.

This despite being constantly told my department was making the store the greater part of its profit.

So who knows how they picked people.

I worked there for 20 years. Made just a little more than minimum wage. Busted my @ss more than new hires. I actually cared about work ethic & pushed store cards on customers. And the thanks I received for loyal servitude was terminating me via email, & while my mom is undergoing a cancer diagnosis & treatment. Let me say there's a nice spot in hell waiting for the heads of this lousy company.

Store 732 was by favoritism. No ranking or behavior taken into account. All the old "colleagues" were let go. According to RIF they need to include with your severance a list and ages of those permanently let go to avoid age discrimination. They know nothing is going to happen because you sign a release when you accept the severance and most of us need the money. But good luck to them.

Some store managers and other levels of management weren’t around long enough to get know the employees that they assessed and ranked. There was a lot of turnover and changes with staff throughout recent years.

Each store manager had to complete an assessment of every associate in the store. Who they wanted to keep and who could go. The decision was not based on tenure or pay. If the store manager didn't like you or didn't think you could do more work with less people to keep from getting their job more difficult you were laid off.

That's how they role. Flip on you like a coin. You will give your all doing your job, but in the end you will be kicked out while down. A warning to all those who have jobs, fair warning, your time will come and they'll do it to you!

I think in my store, it was more about favoritism and who kissed their a–. I was making minimum wage and I lost my job.

Old People go first as they cost more than young bucks and have a knowledge and rebel against management. Newer and cheaper ppl offer no such resistance

It’s simple. They never looked at your rank just what you made

Favoritism outweighed performance

My guess would be you are from store 533 where favoritism outweighs performance.

That's an easy one! 1. You are old. 2. You might have seen and understood what mistakes have been made; cannot be tolerated. 3. They could save 14 cents an hour by keeping a less seasoned employee in a job and dumping you. This is a time-honored tradition at Macy's, right up there w the parade and fireworks...

True, I would like to know their ranking and assessment method also. I worked at a store for over 20 years and did more and sold more than others that the decided to keep.

Are you saying you worked for 36 years w/more sales and were laid off and others had less of both and got to keep their jobs?
