Just read this Nicekicks story with a bunch of screenshots from the original (Now deleted) account. So sad to read. It's very much time for a change.

@6sah, precisely. That exotic sh– we hear daily gets old. Oh, yeah, wait until they hear my name then 21 questions follow with so many stupid assumptions built in.

I am mixed (caucasian/indigenous American) and never really gave it two thoughts until I moved to Oregon and started working for Nike. I became extremely aware of my indigenousness, whether it be feeling exoticized or, on one occasion, mistaken for a custodial worker. It's definitely a cultural thing with Oregon and Nike is all about the Oregon culture. You also see this when you have a company where many of the hires come as favors to friends versus trying to have a workforce representative of your customer base.

@5zwb, the pattern is so predictable people are not even questioning it. NOW IS THE TIME TO ADDRESS THIS Sh–

@5qtb, yep. This is all unhealthy and a sign of deteriorating culture. People are completely missing the point.

“Tens of thousands of workers nationwide walked off the job Monday in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, hoping to draw closer scrutiny to the income inequality and systemic racism that organizers say have become more entrenched during the coronavirus pandemic.” All employees at Nike who do nothing but say racism exists should look to do this too. In a previous post when someone suggested that people might walk out, many on this forum thought that person was an anarchist. Wake up! Do something!

being told that 2*2 equals 4 is a colonial construct and this racist. finding out that hiking over the weekend is a white supremacist activity. always afraid of drawing ire for misgendering someone by saying "hey man" and the person says ze identify as a non cis non binary latinx. getting reported to hr because an OK sign was made and that is now racist and a sign of white supremacy. the list goes on, just another day at nike

@3dzs+15X9D1Fg you nailed it....Nike is "hell on earth" for many of us - people of color. Can hardly wait until the COVID-19 is under control (who knows how long that is going to last) so I can get out and be happy again. I do not care about the bonus, profit-sharing, stock awards, etc. Not worth feeling sick to my stomach all day long.

working at nike while _____

white colleague archetyping our target consumer as “tyrone from the bronx who plays basketball”

being referred to as “mixed” in a cross-functional meeting, inc w/ HR, for no apparent reason

colleague of Indian descent receiving a bow and a namaste from a C-suite exec

“woke” white colleague telling black cashier on campus “we’re glad you’re here”

receiving a weekend request from a straight supervisor on where to get pride gear for their nanny

just another day

I love the "VP" troll in the thread. Proof you can be a complete id–t and excel, or just be some tired little person who has nothing better to do. The latter seems like a better vibe honestly.

No surprise that the account disappeared and HR did a Kanye shrug about it's removal...

We're tired and have no plans on letting up. In the words of one of the great memes of the 10s "we still coming"

@2fqk+15X9D1Fg I do not like to comment in this way but, wow, you are an id–t. Wish we know who @2htx+15X9D1Fg is...this person can teach you few things.

@2fqk LOL.... if you are VP (you are NOT), then it all makes sense why Nike is in the state in which it is stuck at the moment. You should read a book, learn how to construct a sentence or two, and learn some humility along the way. You are a self-proclaimed leader but you do not know the first thing about what leaders do. Good luck to you though - you WILL need it more than, as you called them, the little people.

@2lfq I sincerely mean no disrespect; however, who can say if what was said is valid or invalid? I think that is irrelevant. What matters is how each person was made to feel and how that person perceived what was said or done. It does not have to be something so blatantly wrong to make people feel uncomfortable because people have different thresholds. Personally, I think wrong is wrong despite its magnitude. Cheers to better times.

Some of the complaints expressed on the IG accounts seem valid and concerning. Others seem like they're attributing the cold, hard realities of a giant corporation to racism/s-xism/homophobia.

@1bti, I saw that too. WOW.....people cannot even express their opinions anymore. It is possible that Nike's legal team got involved and facilitated taking it down? Does anyone really want to be part of this organization or buy products it produces? This is, to put mildly, unacceptable.

Sadly, this is all true and it is not only our fellow black employees who are experiencing this at Nike. People of color, including myself, have been subject to this for way too long. All my complaints and the speak up portal nonsense is NOT working. If you bring up an issue to HR or ER, they act like YOU are the problem/. I am tired of this sh–....
