Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

July 1, 2020 layoffs

Out of all the people I know, not a single H1B worker was RIFF'd, but instead the majority are very long time (>20 years) employees many of which are key, critical knowledge resources. These layoff moves underscore the dire dearth of Oracle's management structure and lack of any progressive direction.

The growing majority at Oracle are peons from 3rd world countries who blatantly lie their way through the hiring process, lauded for their skillset and then set out to be absolutely useless in achieving anything beneficial. The cover up of all this is no surprise as the culture they are coming from is to support and promote each other regardless of ability or lack thereof. Personally I have seen this occur time and time again whether in consulting, product development or support organizations.

At this point, Oracle is teetering on complete collapse under an ever increasing weight of internal bureaucracy and inability to see the big picture. Oracle is now very much like Titanic and all the errors which lead to its demise.

Today, July 15th is technically my last day employed at Oracle after over 20 years and I am quite relieved to be done. Reviewing the state of this company and the bulk of who is left to run it... I do not envy anyone remaining there. I was fortunate to hold out this long and get some form of severance instead of just quitting in disgust.

This layoff is shear c-ap. Many of our mentors and go-to people have been let go. What the F**K?!

We are seeing a higher and higher percentage of task shufflers being hired here.

Lucky b–tards who got a package. Many of us are considering quitting outright.

Yup. Along with the severance offer, Oracle provided information to comply with the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA) which IMO confirms most (loosely estimate >90%) laid off are >=50 years old. IMO, this seems a clear cut case of age discrimination.

When you get laid off, they ask you to attend these HR webinars that are supposed to help you apply for other internal jobs. This is the biggest bull*^# and a waste of every ones time. Whatever you do, do not apply for internal jobs on Taleo. It’s a scam. All of these reqs are bogus and stale. Save yourself some time and apply outside.

All the young ‘uns here gloating about your youth will be smacked by Father Time in the future. You should have some sympathy. When’s the last time that you helped or mentored an older colleague with skills? Don’t be so privileged.

@OP+15XJQsHb, are you from acquired companies ? Micros or Sun? I can see why because it’s hard to get in that group..it’s a privilege group of older folks that built a moat around them. You had a nice run...should be grateful that Oracle kept you around this long.

I spoke to a lawyer in the DOJ at length today, and they clarified the following:

  • The badly-written statute governing the H1B visa program requires that when an H1B visa comes due for what is called a "permanent alien labor certification," meaning the company sponsoring an H1B visa is applying for that H1B holder to get a green card so they can work in the US forever, they must post a job notice ad in the print Sunday paper for the metro region where the job's physical office is located. Not the weekday print edition, not the online edition, only the print Sunday paper. This is why the Sunday Seattle Times and San Jose Mercury News Sunday print editions, for example, are full of job ads from companies like Amazon and Oracle asking applicants to mail in printed copies of their CVs or resumes that will never be seriously considered, as though it's still 1982. All of those ads are for positions already held by H1B visas, and the companies have no intent of filling those jobs with qualified American citizens. It's all a charade and an exercise in filling in paperwork to keep those foreign workers where they are.
  • HOWEVER, the H1B statue dictates that if a qualified American citizen applies for one of these Sunday newspaper posted job ads, then they are entitled to that job and the H1B visa holder is denied their application for permanent green card status.
  • Therefore, if American citizens want to do something about this situation, they should apply to every Sunday print job posting they can find. By law, if a company receives an application for one of these positions from a qualified American citizen, they are required to hire the citizen and deny the H1B visa holder their request for a green card.
  • Big tech companies will of course ignore these applications by citizens and flaunt the law to ensure their H1Bs stay employed and are granted green cards. When they do that by refusing to hire qualified citizen applicants, citizens need to keep a record of their applications and file complaints with ICIS and the DOJ here: https://www.uscis.gov/report-fraud/uscis-tip-form

Granting permanent alien labor certification to a H1B visa holder when qualified American citizens have applied for that job, but are ignored, is criminal fraud. DOJ will investigate and prosecute these crimes, but only if citizens speak up and report it.

This part, "then set out to be absolutely useless in achieving anything beneficial..." is also true of a few first world employees, too. I've witnessed US- and Euro- based coworkers outright lie about achievements or specific tasks that they'd done, when others of us knew it was untrue. There is often no accountability and if you question anything, you might get axed. Keep your head down, and don't press for transparency. This is what saved my group this go around, but we're certain our luck will run out sometime soon, especially if we have another poor revenue showing. And we are a very current group working on cutting edge technology.

This post cracked me up. Look like a bunch of fat asses and entitled men whining. Stand infront of a mirror and as yourself a question-have you kept up with changing times? what skills have you acquired recently. If your argument is that a low paying person took your job then problem is with you.

Oracle doesn't care about the quality of the product or the quality of service for its customers. They just don't. Cheaper employee spend = more bonuses for the upper execs.

If you are a US Citizen and ORCL has discriminated against you by preferentially hiring or retaining a H1B visa holder, please, PLEASE file a complaint with the Federal government here:

https://www.uscis.gov/report-fraud/uscis-tip-form

Be as specific as possible. If you provide accurate, actionable information, it WILL be referred to a DOJ attorney for investigation and potential legal action.

The only way ORCL and companies like them will stop this abuse of the visa system is if enough citizens file complaints and provide the DOJ with the information they need to charge and fine them. Be a part of the solution, do more than just complain about it on this forum.

Oracle loves cutting costs and not the customer's satisfaction.

Part of the problem at Oracle is the culture it needs to change and the company needs to bring in new blood - since MH is gone SC is doing the right thing by making the company more modern and market driven part of that is people who are willing to think differently. I was part of a large RA at IBM and ended up at Oracle and was very surprised at the way this company does business - as if it is still a market leader - Oracle needs to change and unfortunately people are let go it took me seven months to find the job at Oracle glad I am here to help change the culture too
