Scarborough just contacted the IBEW, they’re setting up virtual meetings for people who want to retire. That’s usually the first sign. Workshops by Scarborough.

OP,

Massive cuts are being planned now and will be announced prior to 3Q2020. Some organizations, like retail stores, are being gutted...I am in HR management and hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst..."

There will be an offer at end of year like there always is, question is will it be across the board? Last several were very limited.

Over here in New Jersey they just asked the network technicians, power department if a package was coming out would you take it? Their supervisor said it was an official headcount that upper management they’re looking at giving a package and they’d like to know some numbers. That’s all the information that was given. They are central office technicians. So I asked my manager of the Central Office‘s and he said yes they are talking about packages he did not get the greenlight to ask us yet.

Yes there will be an offer, for every union member they get rid of they can hire 5 spittoons.

don't ever think you are not expendable. the company doesn't care about you what so ever. so work hard, keep your mouth shut, and ride the waves long as you can stand it.

“ Can we turn this into a VSP thread since a VSP is far more likely than a union handout?”

I for one would like to see a VSP discussion. I wasn’t ready last time but I’m ready now if offered. I don’t consider it a “handout” as the one poster keeps calling it (over and over).

After 20 years of corporate BS, reorgs, long hours, working almost every weekend, I feel I’ve more than earned a parting gift. My spouse and I have maxed out our 401ks most of our working lives, we have no debt, live below our means. VSP would give that last little boost to allow me to comfortably retire now in my mid 50s and never look back. Without it I’ll work a couple more years, that’s fine, I can handle it but it would sure be SWEET to leave sooner, and VZ saves $$ so its a win-win.

If a buyout does materialize, make sure the Union negotiated it, just like they have done with our contracts the past 10 years. Just think of all the perks they bargained for, they are pretty cagey those executives. We got rid of the paid 12 weeks of FMLA and won 4 sick days. Tremendous gains in the medical, who would have thought they could get us to pay thousands a year, and let’s not forget the lofty pay raises... We are actually winning by just paying them about 40 dollars a week... this is what they have told us, so it has to be true... 8&8 and I’m out .

Not sure why VZ will offer buyouts when the interest rates are so low. Would that not lead to huge pension lump sums. I would think they will wait till interest rates go up.

Ah man, I have been climbing into these holes and up poles for 45 years. I am tired but still have two mortgages on my house since the divorce. Please pay this tired old telephone worker to leave.

I'm good either way. If a good buyout comes I'll be gone (hopefully it gets to me). If not, I'll be fine staying until the end of the contract, or maybe another contract. CaChing !!!!!

Very reliable source has told me, buyouts will not happen again. The company has found it more prosperous to bargain with the Union, then to give incentives to leave. This does have some validity to it, we haven’t gained anything in over 10 years except higher dues...
