Does IBM Management Have A Clue?

We are hearing about the recent IBM layoff notice of ex-AT&T Employees outsourced to IBM exactly one year ago last August. Those of us still at AT&T can not fathom or wrap our head's around the folks IBM decided to release versus those they are retaining. The most knowledgeable subject matter experts in engineering and production support are being released, which makes absolutely no sense at all. It really begs the question if IBM Management has a grasp on who the knowledgeable high performers are and if they understand the AT&T long-term business strategy or key money making business services and products?. AT&T will suffer greatly with the loss of some of these top performing key folks and in the end IBM will also feel the pain. It will be a shock when AT&T Business partners realize their key expertise and go to folks in IBM have now been released.

If you ask a bunch of executives who to fire, they never say "executives"! If the executives don't understand the business or the technology, they won't know which employees are valuable so they cut the most expensive. It's that simple, and IBM leadership really is that stupid.

AT&T doesn’t give two hoots about none of their employees . You better open up your eyes and see, the only reason they kept some of the employees is to train the offshore and once that is done the rest of the employees will be hitting the road as well, watch and see. I wouldn’t be surprised if IBM cut their pay. AT&T paid their employees big bucks.

It’s just not IBM who jettisons experts and highly effective techs. It’s a sign that it’s just a money game bc those orders come from several levels above where spreadsheets are the Bible. The spreadsheet jockeys don’t have to deal with the fallout from customers. Sure, it makes no sense to us, it’s a management decision.

SOP for any company IBM absorbs/acquires. They always guarantee the purchased company that the workers will have a job for 1 year, then the ax. It never seems to matter skill/performance as good people are always let go, mostly older people. RedHat will get the same treatment at one year if not sooner.

It's called nepotism. The useless paper pushers (family/friends) are still gainfully employed.
