Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Right Track

Projections show Union Pacific is on track to set an all-time operating ratio record and substantial profit for calendar year 2020. This coming on the heels of a pandemic strapped economy that has shuttered many of its shippers and a near shutdown of a disappearing coal industry. UP’s painful reductions in manpower and fleet size have proven to be key to what should be this years success.

Keep the managers on the 1 week off no pay program seems to be working great

The problem is the investors like seeing layoffs and closures. Shows management is trying to make as much as possible for them. Car loadings are tanking but stock price is going up. Hello Enron

Company slowly dying from the inside out. I know this having a relative in the glass palace that things are not good and they were told too keep quiet on any negative conversations heard in office. So this guy is sugar coating it for reals to at least make himself feel better.

I smell.........BULL$HIT. They wouldn’t be pulling the projections, telling everyone that they are unsure of what the upcoming quarterly results will be because of traffic dropping, and having non agreement take weeks unpaid off. If they knew they were going to be posting positive numbers or even record breaking numbers, they couldn’t keep their mouths shut. Anything positive they have to get out there as soon as possible to control the narrative of how great this company is doing because the negative press from layoffs and facility closings is also out there.

I would dust off the O’l resume if I were part of the management team. Pay reduction is just the TIP 😉 of what this company has in store for them. Hey I heard McDonald’s is hiring managers at 60k plus benefits.

I’m sure the 25% pay cut that the managers took is helping. Word is it’s going to be a permanent pay cut it’s just managers don’t know it yet.

Not to agree with this hoser, but I can only imagine the amount of people furloughed if they hadn't let people go earlier. At least most of them were able to get jobs. I know I'm glad I got furloughed before covid cause I would have a tough time finding a job now.
