Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Can we at least get rid of the right people for once?

If we're going to have major layoffs, can the higher-ups for once get rid of the right people? The ones who barely do anything day in, day out and yet somehow always manage to avoid being laid off?

We could actually use some trimming of the fat, as long as they don't go for muscle once again.

The workers who actually do most of work are PSG21 and below, maybe some PSG 22. Those are the ones who will be taking the brunt of the Layoffs.

The process at Chevron is all about avoiding actual work. Passing it off to others then taking credit for how clever you are, and work the slave who actually does the work into the ground and then lay them off , rinse and repeat.

Agile is simply another iteration of that

Got it?

This is the disease of large companies, people that are more talk than walk. Agile is the solution, hear me out.... Under agile you commit to do some tasks based on an agreement and estimated effort. Embrace agile if you want to get rid of blow hards. Agile is your saviour.

It’s obvious that the failed Reservoir Management and Reserves empires are ripe for elimination of low/value, high PSG positions.

I couldn't agree more. Have been saying that for years. Lots of people not contributing or adding value where others are overstretched. Its usually the lower psgs that are doing a lot of the leg work. and get overlooked..

I work for a guy who incessantly says he is a "thought leader".

If you say you're a thought leader out loud at work.....your position should be leiminated

Won’t happen. Matrix management cannot make that determination. Layers of management across multiple disciplines keep forwarding email relying on the actual work of two people.
In their minds either one of the actual workers can be eliminated for a 50% savings.
They look good. Get their bonuses and vested stock options for pennies on the dollar. That is the system.

The problem is many TL and advisors don’t know. Some of them are not technical. They may believe they are getting rid of the right people. We have a person in our group who has not done any real work in 10 years. He is a psg 24 he constantly comes in late and leaves early as he lives very far from the office. If you ask him a technical question he can not answer it. Over the years I have cough him taking others ideas and discussion from a meeting and running him mouth the a higher up. Always making a problem from nothing so he can tell them how he is going to solve it.
