Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Goodbye Toxic NOV

After many years of working hard, in hopes of being compensated for my efforts... has come to an end. I shed no tears, as I’m finally free!!!

I’ve imagined what this day would be like, over the last five years. Yet I never thought that I would feel so much relief.

I signed my papers today and left with my head held high. I have no bitter words, as I walk away with my pride.

Life is about lessons and I’ve learned many. To my wonderful colleagues that check this site daily with uncertainty and anxiety. I hope that peace surrounds you when your number is up. Prayers and Godspeed to all.

Man oh man... The HATE on here is unreal! You disgust me folks! I worked for NOV since the mid 90's. Back in the early days it really was a great place to work. After joining with Varco in 2005 things quickly started going south as they brought their cancerous culture with and it became more and more prevalent as time went on and more and more NOI originals were pushed out after Clay took the helm. VARCO drove NOI into the ground as far as a fun place to work!!! Very sad. I took the package last year as I saw clearly that the company I once knew is completely GONE! I'm sorry for those of you who never got to know the company NOI once was. Great memories!

@6dym+15hsvIw4 I doubt you could prove it anyway.

You are delusional dude. If you knew who i was you would know I don't work. I became debt free over 5 years ago and decided back then when i turned 66 i would retire. I left NOV a year ago when they offered the VERP. It was to my advantage and i came out smelling like a rose. I couldn't be happier and yes, i am living the dream.

Enjoy your life while looking for a new job and climbing up the ladder to happiness.

It’s ok I don’t have to prove anything enjoy what little life you have working your a– off. And I will do the same. Your just upset that you cannot enjoy your time the way I can currently and become credit card debt free and still save at the same time it’s a natural human reaction to bring someone else down when you are down or in a situation that you cannot remove your self from

@6ytm+15hsvIw4 Did you read his post? He said his total payout is 1898 for two weeks which total pay for the month is 3796. Why are you rounding up? He said AFTER taxes he makes 3800. How the hell can you make 3796 a month and then take out taxes to make 3800 a month? Total payout to me says before taxes and he said he makes 3800 after taxes.

Sorry dude, 100% disabled vet is not getting 4k a month, they just don't pay that amount out. Depending on multiple factors The military has a severity rating ranging from 0-100%. This rating moves in 10% increments, is based on service treatment records, VA medical records and private medical records directly relating to the disability. He may receive additional compensation if he has very severe disabilities or loss of limb or he has a seriously disabled spouse . If that's the case then there are another set of rules that apply to him pertaining to work he can and cannot do. If i remember, the VA compensation tops out around 3500-3600 a month at 100%.

Since my dad is a retired E9 Sergent Major after 27 years of service i will ask him what he thinks of this and you go ask the VA doctor and then we will compare notes, ok?

I'm not raining on someone's sunshine, so please don't get your panties in a wad for me simply calling out a liar.

It’s funny how some ppl can’t accept facts of and I’m sorry 3796 rounded up 4 dollars, and 4K a month which do not have to explain but will comes from getting disability 100 % total and permanent which if you come from a family you would know how stop trying to rain on others sunshine bc you are stuck in your raining days.

@6zgp+15hsvIw4 I call BS. 1) 1898 + 1898 does not = 3800 after taxes. Apparently you failed math horribly. 2) again, BS. I can't wait to hear how as a veteran you make 4k a month.
A little info for you, I come from a military family, so please, lets see your explanation.

Post ID: @6kny+15hsvIw4

So here is the thing.
1 total pay out is 1,898 for 2 weeks which comes out too 3800 after tax’s.
2 being a veteran with veteran pay coming in which is another 4K a month, total comes out too almost 8k a month.
Yes it s—s being laid off but spending time with my family is priceless. Not everyone is lucky enough to bring in what I am currently but when you learn to live within your means you can be basically debt free from credit cards. And save about 1k a month for myself doesn’t apply to everyone bc some ppl don’t know how to mange money properly. Have a wonderful time thinking about this.

I’m pretty sure that Burger King or KFC aren’t the only options post NOV LOL!

Everyone that I know, swears life is better after leaving this volatile company. Not even a week after my lay-off, I got an offer making 35K more a year, doing the same job function.

Yes, it’s the Colonel, I’m in my second year of recovery and life just keeps getting better. Lots more fun BBQing and working with people who do not worship the almighty $$$$. But when money is your god, I I guess that’s what you do.

Hey Colonel,

Is this Col. Sanders ?

Don’t you make a good living out of frying chicken ?

Do you think for some reason that working at NOV was like working with “family” ?

I mean like one big happy murderous, jealous, divisive & sociopathic family ?

Unlike NOV, at least there’s dignity in that !

Fry on Colonel, Sir !

It takes about three months to detox and another year to fully recover. I quit just over a year ago and have never been happier. Their are good people at NOV but unfortunately a lot of people who are only interested in self promotion. Oh well, that’s the way it is in most large companies. There was life before NOV and there is life after NOV.

Congratulations! Getting laid off from NOV was the best day of my life. I had to hide the smile from my HR rep. With my severance, and they basically did was give me a nice paid extended vacation. I was able to get my head back on straight, find my confidence and skills again, and am now with an employer that actually pays market and gives a sh– about their employees. Good luck and godspeed in your future endeavours.

When you read his comment, you didn't feel he was bragging at all, any where in that message? At a time when others are suffering, he brags.

It doesn't harm me at all, i could give a rats a– how he lives. You really think living in the states he can live on unemployment the rest of the year and still put $1000 in saving every month?

I just called him out on him lying. Voicing my freedom of speech, ok?

If the guy thinks he can make it on the unemployment money he says he’s getting, does that harm anyone?

I mean, I think his overall point was, without getting too technical, that while it is tough and lean for awhile, there is some help (and hope) even after losing a job.

He’s looking at the bright side about the positives (more time with family, less stress, maybe some healing from toxic NOV environment a common theme and a fresh start).

A big paycheck doesn’t mean big happiness.

Best wishes to all!

@2gty+15hsvIw4 if you are replying about not making $4000 a month then i will ask you, did you read my comments, the third (@1iwm+15hsvIw4) and the ninth (@2gtz+15hsvIw4) ones down?

What my comments say is i don't believe his (@1gjw+15hsvIw4) bragging mouth. He says, he is making about $4000 a month and once the extra unemployment runs out he is still putting a $1000 a month in saving AND still paying regular bills, house car, food electric.
So, according to HIM (@1gjw+15hsvIw4) he will be living on $1084 a month, paying all his bills and will be happy. Oh and he is not looking for a job until next year.

So NO, i don't believe his lying mouth.

I believe he is making 4k a month on unemployment. Regular unemployment is about 500 per week. The government passed the cares act which adds another 600 a week on top until july 31st.. that 4400 per month.

"doubt" – If you have doubt or doubts about something, you feel uncertain about it and do not know whether it is true or possible.

Hahaha, some Americans have no common sense and are so stupid!!!

@2tuj+15hsvIw4 Brilliant assessment, hell, i would never had guessed there were 4 weeks in month.
Wow, i'm impressed you can do the math. Did you have to use a calculator or do you know how to multiply with paper & pen?

Maybe you didn't understand what i wrote. I said i doubt that he was making about $4000 month. That means, i don't believe a word out of his bragging mouth. Maybe you need some reading comprehension.

Sorry again dude, no bitterness here, i left a long time ago. How about you? You still hiding under your desk? Maybe under Malls desk?

@1iwm+15hsvIw4 you do realize there are four weeks in a month yeah? By your math you could earn 4484/mo.

Don't be bitter because you're still slaving away for Clay's multimillion compensation package.

@1gjw+15hsvIw4 Bullit. You may have taken your severance pay and paid all your bills off but i doubt you are collecting about $4000 a month from unemployment. In the state of Texas unemployment pays maximum $521 a week, if you qualify. Of course there is the Care's Act for $600 but Trump and Republican Lawmakers are wanting to reduce unemployment pay now and take away the Care's Act stimulus. So, no, i don't buy into your bullit. Good luck finding a job next year.

Does not take any time really to get your unemployment to kick in I got mine in less then one month and I have paid off just about all of my credit debts so now I’m bring in about 4K from unemployment and I am putting about 1k in savings and even once the extra runs out from unemployment I’ll still be putting 1k in savings and still paying my regular bills, house, car, food, electric have to learn how to live within your means so yeah getting laid off was good got out of credit card debts, and have so much more time to spend with what’s important in my life my kids my wife lost so much time because of working for nov yes it will s— looking for a job next year but the way it’s looking right now being home is the safest place to be at the moment and with everything paid off I can offered to take on some 10-12 dollar job but guess what tomorrow is never promised to us so live it and enjoy it with the ones you love right now because time lost can never be given back.
