Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Go to part time collect unemployement

If you are a 40hr a week employee , it seems almost it would make sense to drop to a reduced hours offering of 32 or 24 hrs and collect unemployment to recoup the rest as you will make more ....is this something possible

Get it in writing. The call with Krista yesterday only mentioned tuition reimbursement specifically and was wishy washy on a lot of details. Do you know how much part timers pay for medical right now? It is insane. Medical coverage is not "fully covered" if they charge you 10k a year for it while handing you a paycut. Verizon will get theirs, they always do.

is going Part time worth it sounds like they are going to over work full timers. 32 full benefits don't sound to bad but curious to hear everyones opinion

OP: Unemployment doesn't work that way.

Reps thinking of part time: They've already backtracked on part time getting full time benefits. Demand it in writing or don't sign up for part time.

you can't collect unemployment, well at least in my state, you will still be making more than what is required to qualify for unemployment, typically you would have to be working about 10 to 15 hours to qualify for partial unemployment in most states.

Benefit packages will increase if you drop below 40.

Replying to @dwh+15nHOvhm, if you go 32 hours you actually keep your full time benefits

Do you lose your full time benefits if you go part-time? PTO's and other benefits? Also, note that layoffs hit the non-FT employees before the actual FT employees. Think hard before making that decision.
