Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Layoffs 2020

It was announced to legal yesterday and will be announced to everyone today.

It’s not covid related, they just decided not to put plans on hold because of covid.

This plan has been in the works for a year and layoffs have been mentioned since December. They say the company is profitable but sliding behind competitors so they want to trim the fat to increase that profit margin and hopefully rise back to #2. We are currently in 4th.

They said there will be packaged but the units to be hit or the number of layoffs is unknown. CEO is unlikely to offer any more significant insight tomorrow beyond that it is happening.

The “transformative growth” you’ve been hearing about? That’s what this is.

Allstate is keeping more of its’ legal work in house than ever, which saves them a ton of $ so unsure why they would ever cut from legal.

Does anyone have an idea how many cuts will be made in claims? What about auto field reps??

Does anyone have any information regarding Product Technology resources? Specifically, those housed in HO?

There seems to be a lot of chatter around HO being hit hard. I would be interested in knowing if that would include technology resources.

Good evening - prior commenter here:

I do not knows details of every department but my own, but know there is cuts across every department and AoR. Consensus is HO is hit the hardest, with significant cuts to HR, Finance, Agency Operations, Internal Operations teams (facilities management, etc not needed with no facilities).

Regional Sales teams are being cut drastically. Many incentive based jobs will be cut or restructured. I'm not close to the field, so I'm thinking this means Field VPs or Sales Managers. Appears nothing changing on the agency model despite field rumors for months? Do not know much here. I suspect Claims will see a hit as all will, but C-Leadership seems to want to keep the distribution and claims intact.

Maintaining Four Regional HQs has been in the works for sometime as many Regional responsibilities have been centralized over the past 12 months. Anybody in an E- band or higher, or who has been around for years has likely seen this shift. The consensus is those displaced (read: lucky man out) VPs, Operation Leads, Managers will be cut.

If you're in the aforementioned HO departments, start looking. If you're in Sales, start looking. God bless & please stay safe.

One thing has been clear for a while - anyone left in Northbrook (except for C-Level and their support staff) is pretty much toast. It was just a matter of time. Six months ago, many would have welcomed a severance package, enjoy a few months downtime and be able to find another job. It is a different world today and a job loss will be harsh when you are not in "Good Hands"

Expect claims to be hit. I’m an Allstate preferred vendor who does work on property claims. They’ve been passing more responsibility ( using us as free labor) to us lately. Basically we’ve been doing stuff that should be an adjuster’s job.

If you’re an adjuster the writing has been on the wall for a while. A manager in a csa doesn’t know anything more than you though, the rcl or their cfd knows more but no claims managers are privy to information that HO managers don’t have.

If quickfoto can adjust the claim for you then quickfoto is going to adjust the claim for you

Where did you get this information? 3,700 is not an insignificant number, and going from 12 to 4 Regional offices sounds like big news.

~3,700 targeted jobs marked for elimination. Cuts staggered throughout 2020, beginning in August. C-level anticipates major voluntary turnover which will mitigate severance costs. Real estate expenses being cut aprx 75%, with 14 regional HQ shrunk to Four, and 1 Allstate NJ. Interesting times. Business-area leadership knows which divisions & roles within their respective departments, but cross-enterprise is NTN with most of us not needing to know.

All Officer/C level and Field VP required to sign NDAs.
Consensus is HO HR, Finance, Ops is severely impacted, with Regional operations having already made cuts in mid-to-late 2019. Region Departments will see cuts, including drastic cuts to the Field Sales model.
Stay tuned...

Managers and leaders already know what groups are affected before the call today. Talk with your boss and see if your job is safe. Pretty much if your job is redundant and someone else does it from Esurance, claims, adjusters, call center, sales, now real estate (since no one wants to go back into the office anymore), or can be done by technology. Your job will be impacted. The company is very transparent and wants to keep as many people as possible. And they will try and put you in a new job internally. And if you don't want to then you'll have to leave.

So this explains a lot. Just had an interview this week and it went very well. They were excited and told me about next steps. They also mentioned that they have a company call with CEO. I guess the news was not good because I got an email that they were going with 'other' candidates. Lame excuse. Just say the position is on-hold indefinitely.
