Midyear Review Lottery

Sounds like mid year review will a short script this year.
Pick 1 or 2.

  1. "What mailing address should we use for the box?"
  2. "Work more hours or start packing a box".

Is mid year review hatchet day for us turkeys?

I know a person who actually got a 1 block for review back in Feb (only one I have ever known) and got RIF'd in May. In this particular group I would say 3 top performers / knowledgeable were RIF'd and lower less knowledgeable workers were kept. Their immediate manager said had no input and was taken by surprise. Block rating - what does it really get you? Not sure it really matters for anything. You have upper Manager people picking the RIFees and likely have no idea who they are, what work they do or care. The have a "new look" they want for the company and are going to make it happen.

Mid-years basically lock in your block rating and performance review for the rest of the year. Unless you demonstrate a huge change by year-end, you can extrapolate your mid-year review to your full year performance review.

Mid years don't matter for the employee. It is a tool used by management to rack and stack employees for the next action. If you are a band 04 individual contributing employee, your days are numbered. Management don't want your salary and don't want to give bonuses. That leaves more $$$ for themselves.

Mine did not have a due date for the completion of HDP...no mention of date for the actual review.

Last thing you want to do is protest the mid year, in reality you can refuse to sign the results at which point it would be escalated to HR.

probably not the smartest move to involuntarily self nominate yourself.
