Definitely can in Illinois. And until end of July you get an extra $600 from federal government on top of your state unemployment. It’s paid every two weeks. I’m getting just over $1,800 every two weeks from unemployment plus my Honeywell severance.... thanks Honeywell- best gift I ever got in 30+ years!!

In Illinois you can file for unemployment on your first day of being unemployed, regardless of whether or not you are receiving severance pay. You are NOT considered to still be an employee if you are receiving severance pay. Once a company has terminated their employment agreement with you, then you can file for unemployment.
Requirements vary by state. Check your state's unemployment website for guidance.

No, I believe you are considered an employee while your Severance lasts.

Depends on state. in Illinois the process was simple and painless, and paid out on the same day the half-paycheck was paid out.
