I wish we were offered voluntary layoffs. I'm ready to leave this place. It has changed drastically in the past five to ten years and it's now unrecognizable to us oldtimers. I don't feel motivated to do any of the work anymore. Why would I? You get exactly what you invest in your employees. And Exxon has long shown it doesn't care about us one bit.
So I am done. Give me severance and I'll be on my way.

Earlier this year, my new first-time a sup started hounding me about my performance, even stating that what I did didn’t add value to the Company. Really??? It wasn’t a formal PIP cause he didn’t know about those. I have no doubt it was age related as I was one of the older ones and worked with higher Integrity than several in my work group. Decided to take control. Packed my bags and took early retirement. Best decision ever. No second thoughts, no regrets.
If you feel it was in fact age related, I wouldn't waste even one more day. Hire the nastiest lawyer you can find and get up in their a–. Good luck to you.
Full Disclosure: I am one of those given a "Choice". I can participate in a PIP (which I didn't see coming) or choose to retire. I can state that I was CLEARLY informed that a positive outcome via the PIP was not likely. I worked hard at ExxonMobil for over 30 years. Things have changed dramatically over that time. I have full faith in the belief that my situation is largely age related as I am now in my sixties. I wish those that remain all the best and cannot stress plainly enough to be careful and document everything.

they are a very cheap company, mobil was much better, they blew up and destroyed the refinery in Torrance, ca. then dumped it, very unfair to the employees and favored unskilled contractors that blew the place up.

The safety culture is more about paperwork than it is about results. Their Loss Prevention System LPS looks more to place blame then to find solutions. Culture is based on economics more than safety
