Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Decision Time, Macy’s?

So, if the benefit year changes over on July 1, I am assuming it is almost time for Macy’s to either s**t or get off the pot when it comes to informing still-furloughed colleagues of where they stand, right?

I mean, stringing people (many who have been with the company for years) along since March is one thing, but continuing to do it when the federal unemployment assistance is scheduled to expire in July is another. That’s basically what many people have been able to survive on since this began.

However, I think Macy’s is now going to be forced to actually tell people where they stand, because I can’t imagine a cash-poor (supposedly) company like ours beginning to pay benefits for people they don’t actually intend to keep on their payroll.

Lets just hope they are kind enough to offer some kind of severance.

WTH! Store 703 is a path to growth stores. How could Macy's have a path to growth store in a volume class C Mall?! It doesn't make sense. 🙄

In our store 703 Laredo, Texas they haven't call back furloughed colleagues yet but still our store is continuing remodeling the store. They are planning to open a Macy's Backstage inside our store this year. Ever since the store open we aren't even making the sales numbers. I just don't understand why Macy's is continuing the remodeling phase of opening a Macy's Backstage in our store. Two anchor stores are closing this year in our local mall and several small stores too. Mall del Norte will now be a volume class C mall by the end of this year. Macy's is just wasting money on building a Backstage in a class C mall there's hardly any foot traffic in our mall.

With new insurance year beginning soon, I think announcements will be made soon. Who is brought back at this point I think is dependent on how well a store is doing right now as well as how long the store has been open. While some stores down south have been open over a month and should know their needs, the stores in NY have only just opened in the last week or so.

So I think decisions should be made soon. And as for those being let go, I would consider the extra 600 you've been getting as your severance. Because I'd be surprised if macys actually pays severance out. If they do, consider it a bonus.

Furloughed associates are not coming back. My store we had a phase 1 number and then were told we would get more at a later date. We were told the other day now that we are actually over our new fall budget by two colleagues... wow just wow . Flex associates are not going forward in any store, etc. take the severance and collect while you find a company worth working for because this is going to be beyond rough.

Herald Square store re-opens on Monday, which should be a huge signal in either direction.

They should be ashamed for how they have treated people. Lack of communication and keeping people in limbo is totally unprofessional and wouldn't be surprised if lawsuits come out of this.
Without a strategy or vision why do they need anyone back anyway? This company has been in defensive mode for the past few years. Start playing offense against your competition and leverage the bright minds/people who actually care about making a difference. Stop replacing your people with cheap low quality labor.
My advice to colleagues - focus on yourself and be prepared to find something else. You deserve better.

Everyone was ranked by the store manager on who they wanted to bring back first. It's not that you didn't pass the assessment, it's just others were ranked above you; they were asked first, and if they returned to work then the second tier continues on furlough until the next call back.

Glad I have my husbands insurance for both of us. When I called the store director the weekend before opening he said I did not pass an assessment so would not be called back right away. Nobody knows what this refures to. Yes it is a sh– show.

The $1 million they gave to BLM is your severance.

No severance as all the VPs and above will be making full salary starting July 1 and they'll need that money for them

Plan is to not notify anyone. You'll find out when you're at the doctors and go to use your medical. If it's rejected, you've been dumped.
