When I was a people manager, we we’re explicitly told that the only way we could increase developer headcount was to fire someone in the US or Canada and then hire in India. This was over 10 years ago, I don’t imagine it has changed.

I have no issue with bootstrapping business in other countries. The learning curve is long, sometimes generational, and this must be accounted for by the industry. The facts are in about 737max. Doing work at cut rate in a country with little experience does impact quality and places lives at risk.

Doesnt mean the people are less capable.. just means they did not grow up in a house where their father was an aerospace engineer, and their father's father was an aerospace engineer. That type of learning cannot be overstated. My children are fourth generation engineers. Does this make them smatter? No... but it does make them better engineers. Just like muscicians... do something from the day you are born and your skills show it.

Instead of Trump and McSally speaking out, how about doing something about it. It’s a bunch of hot air. Or maybe he and our CEO talked about it and had a nice laugh. Trump wasn’t afraid to peddle his stupid clothing line that was made offshore and use Chinese steel for his construction.

At 1/5 the cost. Why not get a new ceo from there as well? Stockholders and chair should push for that. And no golden parachutes.

“American jobs”, lol. I love how some Americans ‘think’ these jobs are theirs. This is capitalism, plain and simple. This is what you continue to support and defend. Don’t come crying now that you’ve been replaced or outsourced.

American jobs... lol!

H1b is a gateway d–g. Come work in america. Send money home.
Go home and teach ten engineers.
Bottom line. India is 1/5th the cost of western engineer for a wide variety of reasons.

Salary and benefits may not even be as important in the money equation as cost to do business.
OLD buildings with large amounts of expensive equipment and large legacy capital liabilities.
Leveling the rates helped. But understand thst for what it was...a bailout of sites with so much crumbling infrastructure that they could not possibly compete going forward.

I would love to know how much corporate tax honeywell pays in india. Pretty sure it is not the advertised 40 percent.

There's a bigger problem with the work that's been sent to China than India for Aero, if you really want to look at quality. The problems have just been better covered up by the ALT.

@rsd: Yes, and at a fraction of the cost as @zar stated.

100% true, almost all software jobs were just sent from Atlanta to India.

Not all H1B get paid a fraction. Many get a competitive salary. Restrictions, yes, but not all are a fraction of the salary. I know this for a fact.

Duh. Read the annual reports. 60000 plus jobs over last 15 yrs. H1B visa is just the modern take on indentured servant. Slavery didnt end ... it just got a corporate makeover and now goes by words like "foxcon" and honeywell. Same job , fraction of the pay.

Honeywell has outsourced American jobs to Mexico, Czech Republic, Romania, India, China, and several other countries I don't remember at this time for 20 some years. It's nothing new.
