Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

It's finally over!

I've been told, with confirmation, that I'm finally being rif'd this coming week!

It was shady the way it happened, but still I'm extremely happy! There were times I've worked 80+ hours a week supporting this soulless, leadership void, sinking ship of a corporation; and while putting in these hours had my "dedication" questioned.

To those who are still with Accountability Is Gone I feel sorry for you and hope you get a package soon. There will be more, and very deep, cuts throughout this year. You WILL be putting in ridiculous hours in an unwinnable situation to try to prevent the inevitable failure of the company.

Take care and God Bless

To the person that asked why the layoffs aren’t in the news is because AIG spreads it out over time so it doesn’t trigger a WARN notice and get public. AIG excels at RIFing people quietly....

All of IT is going to be riffed can’t wait to see that. The new person is planning on getting all the Citi people fired and bring their own in. Going to be fun next couple of months. It’s the blind leading the blind and clueless leading the yuppie clueless club.

I agree with the post that said work 20 hours a week and focus on kids and dog!!

Do enough just to get by and not make any waves, focus on other things and maybe a new career. Or maybe you survive till the next regime change and they clean house and actually know how to run a company

So let me make sure I understand. 80 hours a week and Management is not giving raises and the bonus is poor at best and the work environment is not good either. Systems are poor, they are moving business to TPAs and the only thing they care about is their bonus and the large account.

The only reason they do not get out of more lines of business currently is they would be running off to much premium to pay claims. work your 20 hours a week and focus on the kids and dog.

Easier said than done esp for those older workers who stuck through the ugly and with the economy as it is - well ... enough said. Ugly stuff when hacks like BD and others not only drag down the company but drag down millions ... hard to get your head around it ... so yep sounds like a good American pep talk to go get another job - laughable to even suggest it’s easy.

I don't understand... if you were so unhappy, find another job. This is not a defense of AIG, who I personally abhor for the way they treat people, but in my career I have dealt with so many people who are obviously miserable where they work, but when you suggest simply finding a new job, they resist any attempt at change.

I get where you are coming from on the overtime thing for the folks you support but really that’s bunk. Those you support will have to deal with an outsourced system after you’re gone so giving up your time is silly - that’s a flawed view of work ethic in today’s world. Work the hours you are paid to work and that way you are supporting the company much better including your fellow co workers.

I was RIF'd last year and I understand the working long hours leading up to it. Even though the company takes advantage of you, there is that inner responsibility to the people you support. I was in IT and did not want to let my business partners down. I saw what they were going thru with the inadequate systems and downtimes. Every week was at least 70 hours and keeping in touch or working somewhat on PTO days as well. Meetings during vacations from hotels. Don't feel bad that you put in those hours. It wasn't for the company it was for your co-workers and ingrained in your value system.

80 hours a week. Why? Work slowdown this week. This will by the only thing they understand. Take a break, long lunch, go to the bathroom, walk the halls. Say sorry I did not get that one done so you do it I have to take my kid to the park.

A 25 I know was informed he'd be RIFd the week before. I think the more senior you are, the more of a chance they'll let you know beforehand to minimize the impact.

I got a meeting planner the afternoon before and so did my coworkers. We had a webex meeting the next day with my Manager and HR.

Sound like they showed you some mercy and let you know ahead of time. Most folk I know (including myself) only knew when the meeting was setup during the day of the RIFed.

Big RIF in IT this week. All they have left is Indians, Accenture, and very young and inexperienced folks.

Let the outages begin.

Good luck. I was RIF'd on July 10th. I was salaried and worked lots of hours. I am also finally relieved. This is a sinking ship and I feel for those left behind. This company is never going to turn around. I just can't believe they continue to hire Senior Management. I wish you a lot of luck. Stay positive because you at least we got a good package.
