Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Have you seen your PIP?

I am over 40 and have not seen my PIP. Has anyone here seen theirs? If yes, was it before or after you accepted it?

Wow! As a former employee I hate to see such grammatically poor writing. If this is a sample of your abilities, I can see why you are scared. The ability to express yourself or convey a concept in an email or powerpoint slide is integral to your success at XOM. Sorry folks, but most of your statements are hard to follow because your communication skills are so poor.

I also heard the need to improve multiple levels comment to pass the pip.

And Even if you do that, guess who gets it again next year? You do. That came from a friend of mine who is a manager in a diff company. Its a black mark you cant shake. “She’s a witch!!”

Again this is all after a review last year that had me in middle third w a flat trajectory. No warning. Somebody hates me. Well f—k em. Good luck fat tiger.

And if you’re a young person reading this forget it. Xom is a pageant show. primadonnas everywhere. No true leaders anymore. Go tech.

The problem is how the company defines low performers and what qualities make one a desired employee for EM. Not all companies have the same criteria. Some may need more technical people, others need managers and outsource their technical work. If EM labels someone as low performer, this just means he or she is not a good fit for that company's culture and needs.. in most cases, it is nothing more than that.. stop calling people low performers and trying to hurt them.. it helps no one.

@2igd you should never make the assumption that a company has your back. A company only wants you to do work and make the company money. At the 1st downturn, the company will sever ties with you to save itself.

Even the great tech companies have aggressive PIP programs that force low performers out. If you think the grass is greener on the other side, please show yourself out as they will do this to you also.

Suggest that if we were given the PIP, we should give ourselves the dignity and take leave. No point fighting for Exxon. And for those that are safe this ranking, do not be too happy because you will be subjected to it next year as well.. meanwhile, there is still time to plan an exit plan. While it’s not something we want, Exxon no longer got your back, and you should not live on hope that all is well, because the company is not..

So do you, egregious underperformers, accept full responsibility for your egregious underperformance?

Or do you blame the great XOM management?

I'm any event, you do need a PIP that will teach you to accept blame, and never question your betters in management. They know best!

It’s all a crock. I won’t see details of my PIP until after I sign the form to say that’s what I want to do (option #1 of the 3). However, even my manager has told me that it will be a waste of time and that there is no way of saving your job. You’d have 3 months of impossible targets and deadlines in which time you have to convince the organization that you have jumped TWO buckets (to “Good”) and will stay there. It won’t happen.

The PIP doesn’t exist.
My supervisor wasn’t even sure the decision was theirs, they had to ask up the chain after I asked.
They told me they would cobble something together shall I decide to go that route before the end of the decision period.
At the end of the day, the push to reduce headcount supersedes the potential, so even if one demonstrates necessary improvement, the bean counters steward towards a target, so it’s likely they will axe you anyways.
That’s how I heard the communication, even though the chances of passing are to be illustrated as 50:50.

The manager does not have the final say as the group has to fill the bottom rung. Some we’re also told they could be up for consideration in the next round if they prolonged the ranking too long.

Ultimately, your manager has the last say if you stay or go.

Your manager will work with HR to create one. The clock starts for the 3 months regardless.

Their intent with the PIP is to convince you that you s—, this way you are more likely to go along with whatever B.S. they planned for you. It's a confidence game that they are running here.

For your own sanity, fight back! Don't let the baseless PIP get to you. Don't take it personally either.

It's a fraudulent PIP:

Push back, and schedule an Eeoc interview asap, it's all confidential. The company does not know about your eeoc activities until you file a formal charge.
