Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Done and Over it.

I'm done being productive. It was a Honeywell Business Decision to cut all of our resources so why should anyone of us care. I'm going to go in everyday and do absolutely nothing until I'm let go. Most of my co-workers are in agreement. Honeywell will get nothing and like it!

I worked for Honeywell for many years and the last few I did almost nothing and was earning a great paycheck. We would have two hour lunches and go for walks in the afternoon. I then decided that this was to good to be true and could not last for much longer especially given the current conditions. I left for a great job, although I am working harder now than I have been in a very long time.

I had that same problem at a big-name tech employer like 25 years ago, who started laying off regularly. My entire cubicle row either quit or got layed off. There were multiple going-away parties to go to every Friday (you had to choose). So I had that same attitude as the OP. I got PIPed, by an ahole who became my boss through multiple re-orgs, and luckily, I escaped with a new job shortly after. In the end, they wanted to hire me back, and the grass turned out to not be greener, but, I was able to get even a better job at higher pay, soon after that. Keep your heads up. And don't depend on anyone but yourself to make your career better.

That's what happened to all learning classes at Honeywell that used to be available. They just disappeared. The site I worked at (Olathe) traditionally would pay for ground school and subsidize flight lessons through the flight club (!) who used to own a couple of GA planes at a nearby GA airport. There was a Ham radio club (!) where you could learn and use radio skills. Walking the talk (when things were more organic). Now it's nothing but a leaking-roof-empty-soul-depressing-day-job. Plus by now they've layed off the entire flight and ham radio clubs, and the aircraft are sold. No Soul except the corporate-demon-soul-sukkers. It's got to be about the worst place to work in town now, after being one of the best in its day.

@1ail Many years ago there were Continuous Learning bulletin boards where optional technical learning classes were posted. The papers stopped being replaced, then faded and curled under the florescent lights, and then the boards were removed. Ever since then the only training they want you to take are the mandatory classes. It is very difficult to get approval to take the Coursera classes they pretend to offer or for anything else that is not directly required for your current job. No need to expand your skills.

This is nothing new. The company is carried by 10% of it's workforce. The other 90% run real estate businesses from their desk.

Everybody needs to re-focus their energy. Seriously, have you ever had training to build your competence and skills in Honeywell? Me never. In my previous workplace training and improving skills was a weekly thing. Do the bare minimum, then spend a few hours every day now to improve your skill-set in areas you see interest in, and read through job listings and see what skills are the most attractive. Build your competence _now_, during work hours, so that you are ready to jump ship when your time is up in Honeywell, and as you all know that day can be anytime soon...

This is how I got by, and it turned out quite well ;)

I work at a site the used to have 5,000 people, now we have about 500. Quit whining about what you don’t have and start working with what you do have!

Honeywell tried that approach. They got India, China, and Malaysia. The quality went to sh1t and they lost Boeing, Hawker, et al when the dust cleared. Just another example of the toxic culture that makes the company continue to fail. When you do what you've always done, you get what you always got... and what you deserve.

Productivity ended for me when a highly compensated exec said "all engineers should work 60 hours a week and walk ten miles in the snow like i did" .. paraphrasing of course. That was the moment i realized that being slow must be a job requirement for our execs. So.. i emulated them. Block 2 ever since.

Wait.... you should be grateful to be working at Honeywell. We serve at their pleasure and still being employed should be considered a thank you. If you are still employed, you are considered one of the valuable few.

Remember, the only thing our employer is obligated to do is pay is for the service we provide.
