I heard coming August 1st ALL U.P. Employees will no longer be encouraged to wear face masks but will be required.

He had it right, it’s efficacy. And it has been proven in laboratory tests. And numbers are flattening finally where people adhere to mask wearing and social distance when possible.
The mask is to protect others from the wearer. Put on a mask and spit. If it goes through and becomes airborne get a better mask.
I believe it’s spelled efficiency.
Listen I'm all in favor of the mask thing if they can prove the actual efficacy of them. The UP requires respirators for the mechanical dept. that has to seal against the face to avoid breathing in dust that YOU CAN SEE! Ok, but now they want people to wear a mask that DOESN'T seal at all against the face to avoid breathing in a microscopic virus YOU CAN'T SEE. The mask idea has been going on for sometime in most areas, and the numbers are still going up fast. Sorry but you can't blame that on the ones who aren't wearing a mask. The numbers went down in some areas, and flattened out before masks became required. This virus can get in through the eyes as well. Why do you think they tell you not to touch your eyes? Like I said, they need to prove the efficacy of the masks or come up with a better alternative. Numbers are still going up, even with the masks. What I find interesting is the people demanding the masks are being photographed without theirs at random times while out in public. Anyone of you can down vote this all you want. I'm in favor of the masks, but I'm also in favor of social sanity as well. People are being shot and k–led over these masks, and it has gone both ways. People are being hurt when they're forced to wear them, and they're also being hurt when they recommend a mask to someone who's not wearing one! So to make it clearer, the ones who aren't wearing a mask are attacking the ones who are forcing them to wear one. The other way is the people wearing them are attacking or shooting the ones not wearing them. Look at the news articles and you'll see it for yourselves. I stay home and only go out when I absolutely have to. Do not make the mistake in believing that mask is going to fully protect you. Stay safe evryone!
If everyone would wear a mask at all encounters with other people this virus could be stopped. And we could get back to work. But no, they say it is a violation of their rights. To heck with your rights. What about others right to live. Wear a mask!
Finally they made it official!! Great work UP. Can’t wait to see all you haters looking so good in those masks. I know there is a huge smile hiding under there but keep it hidden.
@2kzj: NY has been trending down for a long time. The spread is mostly under control there. CA has a lot of cases in the south and deep-red counties where (surprise-surprise) people are refusing to wear masks. The overall death rates in CA are also lower than the red states where the virus is surging.
Wear a mask. It’s cheap, it’s easy, and it works.

Just so you know, California and New York are blue states. They have the highest rates!

In the states (mostly blue) where people are wearing masks and following public health guidelines, things aren't great, but infection rates are low, and daily life is somewhat safe and normal.
In the states (mostly red) where people have a problem with wearing masks and following public health guidelines, infections are surging, death rates are the among the highest in the world, and hospitals are overflowing.
Wearing masks and following what the doctors say seems to work better than whatever you're doing.

Face masks have been required for most places now, and yet America seems to be getting worse. I'm just wondering when the actual efficacy of the masks will be brought into question.
Corporate America is getting all there debt bought up by the FED. Buying bonds galore. There going to do exactly what they’re told. UP being one of those companies

Face masks should have been required from the beginning, especially with their draconian attendance policies that essentially punish people for staying home when they're sick.
Don't be fooled though. This is just UP covering themselves from future litigation. They don't care about their employees or anyone else. It also gives management another reason to write people up (as if there weren't enough before).
That's so if you get the Rona they can fire you. Didnt have their ppe on. That's a dismissal.
