Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Any credible information in further job cuts?

As in departments, locations, positions, etc.

Lets try to keep the trolling to a minimum please, thanks.

@4zxe: True, but it is a good place to get an idea about what the people working at UP think of their jobs and their managers. From what I've read here, I wouldn't want UP to deliver my groceries, let alone haul my freight.

@UP Management: start listening to your employees and fix your broken culture.

@2lye There's nothing to be upset about.

FWIW I've done quite well since leaving, and I didn't even have to bruise my knees in the process.

As I've said elsewhere, RULA was probably, at least in part, an invitation to the junior managers to look for another job. Any costs it saved would add up to a drop in the bucket compared to the bloated executive compensation packages, much of which consist of company stock that they inflated the value of through buybacks following from the 2017 tax cut.

At least UP seems to be realizing how top-heavy and redundant their management chain has become, and they're finally doing something about it. The job of a single director in a company of similar size is spread out between a senior manager, superintendent, director, and something called an "AVP", also known as "job for my son-in-law". Executive welfare at its finest.

RULA and undertime were a test run before the axe drops. 1 in 4 managers will be gone and what ever the numbers were for each craft with the undertime will get kicked to the curb. Only a fool or mo–n would think their job has any stability to it at this point. They will not stop until unions are broken and contractors are performing all maintenance. Don't think it will not happen, there are anti union smucks that will line up to work for the contractors at half our wage and way worse benefits. I watched it happen in the past.

They will never be done. This greedy bunch running the show now only look at profits not long term. The trucking market will continue to reap havoc and be dominant. Speaking from experience, if you are furloughed and there is an opportunity for another career or you have landed another job that treats you like a asset and a valued employee it would benefit you beyond belief to stay there and not return if called back. Swallow a little pride. Take a little pay cut but enjoy life and your family. The stress level will be cut down to nothing and the feeling of actually working for a great company is worth 10$ an hour pay cut. Do yourself and your family a favor. Enjoy life now because you won’t get to enjoy when you are broke down and crippled or suffering from the stress.

Spoken like a true Manager......... Just tell us who you are.

"No idea as to the OP's question other than they aren't done yet! I would like to clarify that those managers sitting at home on RULA were not eligible for unemployment through RRB or the state and received nothing from the CARES act either. There may be a handful of HQ whose salary was low enough to qualify for minimal benefits but the majority of managers were simply off one week per month without pay. For some it was painful but for many, it was an extra vacation each month of the Summer while still earning more than enough to maintain their lifestyle. Just an fyi"

RULA has been canceled for the remainder the year. All managers will be working, rather than sitting at home for free BUT, still drawing benefits. And they were able to claim unemployment on it. Soooo, the bafoon that conjured up that brilliant idea, should have his пuts put in a vise!

Oh wait, did y'all take those away too?

Well...Feburary of 2021 the trial is set to cancel the contract with the Palestine Car Shop. Wait and see. Other than that, all seems stable right now.

No. Just goofy, disgruntled, non-educated wannabes. No wonder why many posts get deleted by the mods.

If this is what UP hires, then they get what they deserve.

Now: Where else can a high school grad get a job and end up with more seniority than a seasoned worker that comes to the RR?

Where else can a screwed-up/inexperienced get promoted ahead of competent others?

Where else can a diploma-mill person become a trusted manager?

That's right...only at UP!

Good luck to all.

Not a single constructive reply. Why? Someone doesn’t want this site to be a place where workers can communicate constructively. Probably management and ideological anti union people.
