Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

More Severance

I’m not one to take a handout or more than I need. I have a family, bills to pay, and need to work. I haven’t been with the company that long, and I’m fearful that if I get laid off, that 60 days will go fast without having a new job lined up. The dilemma I’m in is that I love my job at Allstate and the people I work with, and it’s a 50/50 shot on if I stay or go. I want to be a part of the future, but also have to look out for my family’s future. What if we were given more severance? If it’s 3000 people who are laid off when all is said and done, what is a standard 6 months of severance pay for all who are impacted to the company’s bottom line? It would make people feel better. That number is off the books in 6 months, how much money could we really be talking here? And for those with 6 months or more severance already built up, maybe they get another incentive of some sort. It will help everyone maybe consider staying and helping get the job done instead of jumping ship and have this all company fall on its face. If there’s no one to do the work, or employees are all disengaged, then the transformative growth plan is a waste.

I don’t understand why the media hasn’t covered this. CBS knows - of course they want to talk to people and no one is going to say a thing and ruin any chances of keeping their job

To OP, as a 20+ year Allstater that has seen a LOT of changes over the years, things have certainly changed (the way we are treated) since Wilson/Shaprio. You may want to re-think that love and relationship.

So for those with tenure and lined up for a full years salary worth of severance, you expect them to give that up for "maybe another incentive of some sort"? LOL! ROTFL! Good luck with that!

Don’t fool yourself into thinking the company is even considering ANY employee friendly approach. This is pure bottom line greed and employees stand in the way. You are simply an overpaid grunt and can be replaced at a lesser cost. Your experience means zilch.

Have any of the less tenured workers been shifted to a less desirable position or been let go?

They are actually moving many to other less desirable positions at a reduction in pay up to 10% to avoid severance payouts as much as possible. They are quite open in the position that if they are going to pay people anything that they are going to get work and production out of them. And I really do think that they are targeting short tenure employees as less than a year gets no severance and only two weeks per year (as far as we know at the moment, they love to change the rules as we recently saw). This is to be done as cheap and with as little paid out to the affected laid off people as it can. And this arrogant company would have to see a TON of bad press to go as far as to pay out any more than they already have to.

Allstate has such an opportunity to turn this around. This wasn’t a good rollout. Fail and fail fast. Make it a case study and show what was learned, and don’t do it again. Breed the type of culture you say you are, but is not reflected in these actions. Pick it up and do the right thing. Have people leaving here say I understand this is business and it s—s, but they took care of me better then I expected and I can respect that. Nobody (especially the pride I see in people at Allstate) want me a handout. If we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic with no end, I think the 60 days would be ok because the job market would be good. It’s just different times right now and we all need a little more help.

I agree, but it’s not gonna happen.

It should be clear to all that Allstate bottom line is getting this all wrapped up as soon as cheap as possible. They really aren’t even pretending to hide this fact.

The ONLY way something like this would happen would be if Allstate got a ton, and I mean a TON of bad press over this whole thing, and needed a bone to throw the media and customers that they “really do care about employees”.
