The issue is personal saving choices and reliance on bringing in a big chunk of cash every two weeks. Is the crud we buy worth it?
The tough reality is each person makes their own financial lifestyle and retirement savings choices.
I always lived minimally and saved. Many times it has been tough, watching co-workers buy new cars and much nicer houses than ours.
Invest first if staying for the long haul. Was LR'd at almost 20 years. Was sad to go but it didn't matter all that much financially when my time arrived.
Pay yourself first if here for the long haul.
When your LR comes up, then you work because you want to, not because you have to.
It is your decision.
