Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why is AT&T now deciding to increase diversity

Att is now deciding to make diversity important. Is it because it looks good while they are laying people off?

As another round of surplus to start, every townhall has focused on fireside chats about activism. I don’t care what color someone is if they do a good job. We have to stop blaming white folks for our culture’s lack of finish: finish with families, finish with education, finish with hard work. No one alive today was a damn slave, and last I looked Affirmative Action, race-based incentives and scholarships are still alive. MLK said content of character. Stop looking at the world as victim and carry yourself as a victor. I don’t want something I haven’t earned, and I won’t defend or back someone who refuses to stay in the victim mentality that allows corporations and politics to continue to make me one. Grow up, work hard, stop looking for an apology you aren’t owed. Black folks need to stop allowing white liberal America to tell us how to feel and act. Stop voting for hand outs and vote candidates that believe in true independence. Brother Malcolm knew it, and Brother Martin knew it. If your “woke” leaders are LeBron and Kap, go back to school and learn some history. Growing up with CNN, Twitter and Buzzfeed as your source for news is as bad as trusting FOX as a single news source. Learn the real history of our people and history.

To @1vzs+16BRgy0T.
Don't you even try to compare the Mexican immigrants' experience in America to the plight of the black people. You came here of your own choosing. You walked across a border. Our people were forced to come here on crowded and disease ridden sailing ships where half of us died during the month long journey. When we got here, we were put in chains and forced to work long hours picking cotton and t-b-cco for our Master and brutally beaten and our women abused. There was no education for us for the first 150 years here. And I guarantee you that my ancestors worked harder than you could ever manage. So don't you come at me with that "my people are walking around with our hats in our hands" routine. We were the backbone that built this Country so that your people could walk on in and enjoy the fruits of our labor. SMH

Greetings @yqx+16BRgy0T ,
Welfare? Food Stamps? I have an education, work hard and refuse to play victim, so walking hat in hand to ask for handouts is not how my mexican immigrant parents brought me up.
Learn to do the same.

I'm guessing @1nvr+16BRgy0T is either Richard Simmons or RuPaul. So bitc*y in the morning aren't we?

Good. The less straight white guys we have making decisions for all of us, the better.

All the cool kids are doing it, that’s why. There is plenty of diversity in the L1 and L2 ranks. L3 and L4, there is a bit of over indexing in terms of diversity. Above that, it’s the well connected. I can tell you I haven’t seen many white guys in the L1 or L2 getting promoted in a very long time. That pretty much doesn’t happen which is odd because there are quite a few of them. There is a saying in our office, if you want to move up, don’t be a straight white guy.

Hey @ary+16BRgy0T , Do you always usually go off the deep when persons do not conform to your standards?
Nothing like employing an uppercase "YOU"
while blogging to tip off everyone who they're dealing with. Go put and get some fresh air.

AT&T has a diversity problem? Well, don't know for sure.

What is known for certainty is, AT&T has a incompetent executives problem.

Get Woke! It is the oppressors turn in the barrel. The chickens have come home to roost! Now go get in line for your unemployment payments. When they run out try living life on Welfare, Medicaid and Food Stamps when your bank accounts of blood money run out. Its about time you know what impact skin color can have on a personal basis. People of color have been swimming up this stream for 250 years while you people waved at us and smiled on the banks. Learn to swim.

AT&T has been one of the top companies for years on diversity. In all my years I never saw any discrimination of employee's. There have been lots of jobs in the top 3 levels of people of all sorts. It's never been the question of any promotion. They are now communicating it more because of the current social status of the country.

Those of you that do not realize that the current rhetoric coming from the top is a calculated decision, an intentional attempt to divert attention from piss poor strategic business vision and execution can't be helped.

It is all nonsense. And it will pass. Do the mandatory training (run through the videos with the sound muted while doing your actual job) and keep your head down.

OP:

If you don’t understand why diversity has to be a focus for our culture and many businesses, then it’s safe to say that YOU are part of them problem that needs to be solved.

AT$T is using that as a distraction from their failing business units. AT$T doesn’t give a hoot about social issues, it’s just a lot easier to virtue signal than it is to successfully run a larger business.
