I can see Jenks being sold to a 3rd party - like Wabtec. It’s not our core business of moving cars and it’s expensive to run. Lots of headcount with high salaries and long-term pension liabilities. If 8% can find a suitor, it will be gone.

All signs point to first week in September for 10% reduction in headcount....

Means more work for us North Platte guys and job security. Thanks to us we are very reliable. This is a good sign we will be picking up more overtime. No layoffs until maybe next year

This has nothing to do with UP, but Greenbriar wheel repair in Hershey Nebraska layed off 26 and shut down for now. Will have to wait and see if Bailey yards will follow through.

Yeah jenks guys were told by their union reps and upper management that they were safe, each and every quarter, then slice cut they a$$, then they were told that jenks was cut to the bone so much work to do cant get it all done with the amount of guys we have, gonna have to call guys back, blah blah blah, told there would be no more cuts at jenks they have to have everyone and then some. Then covid let's close it down, jenks is the only one on the system that can do what they do. Several craftsmen and managers that have been to, and worked at other shops (yes NP as well) have even said it, cant believe the work jenks does, that no where does what jenks does. Locos torn completely apart down to the frame, and even removing part of that for replacing. Taking a severely wrecked unit and building it back new again. Jenks was and is the sacred cow of UP, it will open again, and from what I've heard, not from LR management, but Omaha management is that the plan is to open Jenks back up and layoff at NP to balance it out. Rumor going around is closing NP for the last quarter of the year and that's when jenks will open back up. I guess we will see,

Commuter isn't safe. Once that lawsuit is settled Metra isn't going to take on all UP employees. Just a quarter of them. They work more with less guys.

North Platte better watch out. Don't think they are not saving the best layoff for last and hit that place hard. Them guy's can say what they want but ask all the other shops you are not safe.
