Management already let the cat out of the bag. No surplus for 4Q

They can surplus ST’s while there are term OPT’s on the payroll. And those ST’s can, have and will bump permanent OPT’s in their exchange or other exchanges in the state if the company decides to surplus ST’s. It’s already happened on my crew twice and it will continue to happen because there is absolutely nothing in the union contract that prevents it.

The exchange I’m in is hiring 25 opt’s. Service techs cannot be sent home while 25 opts (even term) are working. It’s in the contract. I would have been working for another company after 2 years here if it wasn’t for the contract. I’ve been here for 22 now. The union does work and it does work for the working class of this country.

I’m sure that “Covid Money” is going to keep this company from laying off just like the that huge corporate tax break a couple of years ago did. If they do hire OPT’s, they’ll be terms with no benefits and it won’t stop other permanent techs from bumping OPT’s.

AT&T took covid money so there will be no surpluses til March. A new 4 year fiber overlay buildout has been signed so surpluses are not likely going forward. OPT’s will be needed.

Heard mostly ST’s that didn’t take the buyout last quarter, which means they will just bump OPT’s, but that’s just hearsay. Really hard to know what they are doing at this point.
