Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

ER notice to manager before i accept or after it is approved

managers are not ifficially told who is eligible but they likely know.

bonus is being set right now - likely you get less than you deserve if managers reward those staying.

if you accept you get a response approving your decision that also informs your manager.

What is everyone doing about letting your manager know in advance?

I told my manager in advance of the "system" notifying her. I enjoy working with her and wanted to give her that respect. You never know where life will take you and you may want/need to come back one day.

when u turn 50, you get a day off for your birthday. so definitely your mgr and teammates know your age if you're 50+

I've never heard of a birthday off for turning 50.

However, Cisco did start granting a day off for your birthday that didn't count against your PTO balance for all employees. It started sometime shortly after CR took over as CEO. You're supposed to use it within 1-2 weeks of your birthday with your manager's approval.

I'm one of those nosy people on my team that knows everyone's birthday. I may or may not know the year, but I put the date in my contacts for that person whenever I hear them talk about their birthday or someone wishes them a happy birthday. Then I make an effort to wish them a happy birthday every year there after, even after I switch teams.

Someone mentioned that your manager doesn't know your age. Are you kidding? Your birthdate is in your online company profile.....along with inservice (start) date, performance raises, etc (notice I mention "raises". Cisco doesn't rate performance anymore, but when you get a raise, it is noted).

I heard similar, your manager will only be notified only if you Approve. Not sure on timing.

Your manager does not get informed about your ER election until Sept 8. Bonuses are finalized on Sept 4. Your manager can guess if you are eligible but there is no way they can know this unless they know your age (which HR cannot share), and they certainly cannot know if you elected to take the ER before 9/8 unless you tell them.

• your manager knowS in advance if you are eligible, they don’t know your decision until Sep3
• it is no coincidence that IPF and bonuses close the week after ER election cycle completes.
