IBM is always looking out for us. At my local office, they had just started offering free candy (before the shutdown).

When following social distancing guidelines you can only allow about a 1/3 of your staff in the office.
If they are already over capacity with current staff in a particular location then it makes zero sense to be relocating more people in. It's only a 6 mo commitment in order to receive lump sum pay so most will take off after 6 mo especially if the virus is still around and they are already wfh anyway.

IBM spent 2 billion dollars every single year on office space in the early 1990's . They spent this money regardless if they needed too or not , which lead to layoffs that realty have never ended .

Even before Covid, most IBM offices were ghost towns with 1970s decor.

Most schools will remain closed throughout the year. Businesses that can will keep employee's working remote. IBM might have to rescind those relocation offers if the pandemic is still around.

It looks like this article is about the Watson Research Center (Watson the man, not Watson the AI). It has always had the best of everything. Don't expect any of this to appear at your office any time soon.

I don’t see that many folks being impacted by this They noted in the story, that folks had to come in to tend to machines that needed some tending. In this Covid world I would say maybe 1 in a 1000 folks needs to come in to tend to machines Otherwise services, Sales, admin, etc etc just work from home

They seem to be saying one thing doing another. I was part of the group back in May that was RA'd but given the option to stay with the company but have to relocate to Columbia, MO. Due to the current job environment I accepted that offer. We were originally suppose to report there in Sept. They have now moved that date out to Jan 2021. Hearing quiet a few people accepted this offer. All these people are currently doing their new job out of their homes but still must relocate in Jan for no real reason. I know I accepted the offer with that understanding and will have to abide by it but if the company really was concerned they would not be making anyone relocate to an office when they are not needed there and people have to sit with masks on all day at work and still do meetings via webex.
