Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Vacation?

Vacation? I was surpluses in July. If I am hired by AT&T within 6 months of that July off-payroll date, will my vacation time be restored to what it was (4 weeks) or will it be set back to 2 weeks like a new hire?

If you incurred an AT&T Surplus, MGMT Termination of Employment due to a layoff or involuntary reduction in work force, and you are rehired within two (2) years after your Termination of Employment, the absence will not be a break in service.

In addition, the following rules apply: If you are re-employed… Then… Following a period of absence of six (6) months or less in any 12-month period THEN

Your Term of Employment will include that period of absence.

Following a break in service of more than six (6) months in any 12-month period
Your Term of Employment will not include that period of absence.

OP: Thank you. I have young children and 4 weeks vacation means a lot.

I think it would depend on whether or not your service was bridged. After being gone such a short time they me be willing but its not guaranteed.

Funny thing is there are a ton of jobs on internal jobs site (about 755) and about 1900 on external AT&T site... probably with a lot of job titles of the people they just surplussed

What are you thinking about because T let you go to save money. I have not heard about one person being rehired unless you know someone high up that created a job just for you. It was done for me.

You will get your vacation back immediately, but bridging your service may not be immediately if you get hired back after 6 months.

If you had a surplus payment you would pay some of it back if you came back before 181 days. You would start over like new and then there is a time period (usually 5 years) before you get your seniority back. I’ve known a couple people to work here 10 years then come back a year later and they had to wait 5 years to get seniority back.

If you are hired back without break in service all previous benefits are restored. Otherwise you start over like new employee.

Why would you want to come back?

To answer your question "within six months — yes". More than 6 months - No.
