Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

“Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor.”

Seems no one can articulate what exactly gets you on the Oct 7th list.

"At Cisco, your career is short. Don't make any long term plans or care all that much about your job. Goodnight, they'll most likely k–l you in the morning. Also, and by the way, you should feel very lucky that they do this to you. "

I never even got the chance as a Red Badge to experience a career there, they promised to hire me on for 18 months and said "good boy". Until it was time to f— with the next red badge and promise them a job for the next 18 months.

Haha. The most sadly true (but still funny) post I’ve seen here in a while...

Don't worry folks.

If you aren't chosen on Oct 7th, you will get a chance every single year from here until your ultimate early demise.

50-60 hour weeks.... You get a layoff!

Certifications and awards... You get a layoff!

Company loyalty and teamwork... You get a layoff!

This is Cisco, like the tide, like toast landing butter side down, like cats landing on their feet, like the Browns inevitable terrible season, like my kids needing to use the bathroom 10 minutes into a road trip, your "early retirement" is completely predictable.

At Cisco, your career is short. Don't make any long term plans or care all that much about your job. Goodnight, they'll most likely k–l you in the morning. Also, and by the way, you should feel very lucky that they do this to you.

Infosec has a list of ppl dumb enough to browse this site from VPN.

Not really sure that InfoSec would be the team with the list. I'm guessing HR requests the list of people accessing this site from IT, not InfoSec. It would be the networking team that has access to the network logs.

Infosec has much bigger fish to fry, and besides browsing this site and formulating an opinion isn't a violation of your code of business conduct - unless you disclose confidential information.

+1

I've been browsing this site since I first heard about it shortly after I got LR'd in the workforce reduction (WFR) of '11. Then when I came back a year or so later, I browsed it from my desk, at home on VPN, or from my personal system. Still here. Still posting comments. May be gone come mid Oct, but it won't be because I browsed or posted on this site. It will be because I'm an expensive older white guy who can be replaced by a younger person who will spend half their time on stackoverflow looking for answers to what I have learned by experience.

I actually wonder whether folks posting things like "infosec knows you're browsing this from VPN or the intranet" really believe the nonsense they're posting. Infosec has much bigger fish to fry, and besides browsing this site and formulating an opinion isn't a violation of your code of business conduct - unless you disclose confidential information. That's why nobody is going to articulate what exactly gets you on the October 7th list you're referring to. Actually, Cisco HR does check this site. Not to find a busload of whiners and backstabbers and fire them with furious anger and great vengeance, but to actually get a feel of the general sentiment of employees. I think there was an article somewhere where the author referred to comments made on this forum to describe how folks felt about this new round of layoffs.
