Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

For those that took the PIP

Don't worry! You're not going to succeed. You will be let go in November no matter what you do. Just take the PIL and leave now.

Well lucky for the supervisors, all the sh– work that they didn't want to do that they put in your PIP will now be done! Who do you think will benefit from that???

Straight from HR - "Outcome of PIP will be determined from at least 2 levels of managers with review from HR and Law on documented performance in three month period". The stars would have to align to get through this.

Nobody has claimed that ExxonMobil does not have the legal right to chop employees (in an opaque manner) and stiff them on severance and ending the 401k match for everybody else. It still is very rotten behavior that strays from the norm of our competitors, it also makes the company look kind of desperate, which is not a good look for a publicly owned company. By the way, it is increasingly looking like the dividend is unsustainable over the medium term, no matter the cuts.

There is NO LEGAL requirement to pay severance based on years of service. Use PIP, save severance money then pay the Dividend. Cut Salaries and benefits, then pay the dividend. Cut CAPEX, then pay the dviddend. Shareholders will FIRE DW, if he cuts the dividend. FIRE EMPLOYEES and PAY the DIVIDEND. Management can cut 30% employees, then cut 30% of the compensation on those who stay and cut costs enough PAY the DIVIDEND

Einstein’s Bananas. Perhaps this would be of interest to you. And perhaps you are a member of the top trying to protect the dividends at all cost and sacrificing the livelihood of your employees for a reason.

Einsteins this is old news. Boring. Read the previous threads from months ago.

Share something new like the other failures happening at the company. The top was overloaded and stressed. The bottom is failing and falling.

The recycle and waste overflow.
All projects are being cancelled.

Bananas.

You have to sustain your performance for an intangible years. This is BS. Don’t be overly optimistic, you may pass this round, there will be rounds of forced ranking ahead of you.
Good luck!

I’m starting to believe some of these “I’m doing great on my pip” posts are fake PR posts.

So......the SAME supervisor that placed you on the PIP is going to “change his mind” after you’ve accomplished all the useless goals to help you succeed.?.?

Listen to your gut, which is probably why your on this board. They want what you’ve spent years and money investing in, and they want it for free. They want people of real value to get them a little farther ahead before they cut you loose. This company is the epitome of absolute filth. That’s why they cut from the bottom before jeopardizing the fat on top.

: @1uce+16FCTcOL That’s interesting considering they’ve quietly cut people over the last couple of years and now there’s even less works with almost every project stopped.

The writing is on the wall, the intent is to protect the dividend and not the livelihood of the employees.
Besides retail investors, the management are also shareholders.

This whole thing was to get you all motivated because of the financial situation. Once you show that you are now back at up to speed, you will pass, keep your job, and everything will be back like the old days.

This is not sure. In fact, because we have voiced out, ExxonMobil is more careful to show that they have employees that pass the program. Remember to have explicit of your deliverable, document and these will aid you in the legal issues with ExxonMobil if they choose to fire you for the sake of it.

I am looking forward to see how the Board reacts when they did not hit the 8% they told Wall Street they will remove..

Push forward and get a counsel advice if required.

They will let a certain number pass just to say they did because they manipulate everything and likely PIP’d a higher number of people than they needed to just to prepare for the backlash. Good luck in next round.

Hey @ofz+16FCTcOL I’m with you on this one. I have a supportive management structure (+3 up). I’ve had discussions with each. They have all said to my face that the tasks I’m currently doing and working on have shown great improvement and have given no negative feedback.

Maybe I’m part of the PIP lottery. I have another colleague in a different group who is getting mixed signals. I’m assuming HR has a target number per group and if that was achieved with PIL’s then anyone left probably has a chance. If they haven’t achieved it or you supervisor doesn’t care then it’s probably an issue and your competing against the other people in your group for that possibility of passing.

In the end my resume is prepped and I’m ready to go but I’ve recorded every conversation and have a documented record that I so date have been told I have no issues.

Don't listen to negative people. Work your hardest and you will pass. This job belongs to you. It is in your court. You can do it.

If supervisor does not get rid of you, then the supervisor will be the next to go. Not sure of any supervisor that would gladly let you keep your job at the expense of their own.

Keep fighting all you want for your job, but you WILL be let go in November. No amount of false hope will save you from that.

Remember, it's not just a matter of achieving all of the goals, targets and deliverables by the deadlines specified in your PIP. You also need to convince your supervisor, their manager, possibly the next manager up (and maybe even Law and HR) that you have done enough to demonstrate that you have moved from the NSI group to the "Good Performance" group. This is likely to be impossible unless you have a sponsor really rooting for you. Another poster suggested that it's even more than this - you have to convince this faceless group of people that you will be in the "Good" rank group for at least the next 5 years. This is very likely to be impossible as we all expect another couple of rounds of NSI's to be identified in the next 6-18 months, each removing another 8-10% of low-ranked staff.

Supervisors may say one thing, but they aren't the ones pulling the strings. Ofc, they are going to lead you along to get work out of you, but in November, you will be let go. Regardless of your PIP appearing to be achievable.

I’m PIP’d and not sure I agree with OP’s conclusion. Sure, at the end of the day the company can do what they want. And, of course I’m not being an id–t - resume is updated and actively applying for jobs. But, I think what I was given from a PIP objective standpoint is achievable, and so far everything I’m hearing back and being documented is very positive. I’ve confirmed with at least 5 managers I’m close with that the PIP should be 100% achievable. While I love doom and gloom, I think folks in this predicament need to be aware that not all instances of PIP are a lost hope. Regardless, don’t be dumb. Update your resume and actively look for an alternative.

Lol. Being served legal papers means nothing. Employees trying to sue are going to get nothing except legal fees, wasted time and false hope.

Trust me, XOM has already been sent several legal requests that they have 2 weeks to respond to on each of them. Law is very busy. Plus my case and several others they now have been told to put a legal hold on all documents and any and all communications concerning us. Its not minimal, they are scrambling. And they know who each one of us are and are still too scared to fire us yet.

The amount of work "dealing" with you is very minimal. Not sure what legal recourse you think you are retaining, but you're literally getting nothing out of it.

Don't worry.... I along with most already know this, we're just playing the game. XOM tried to intimidate folks into taking PIL so you would sign legal rights away. I purposely took PIP so I would have all future legal rights when the class action lawsuit comes against XOM. Plus is gives my supervisor and management extra work dealing with me.

Yes, it is a sham. I don’t know the company’s true reason for the charade to avoid calling it a lay-off, not giving severance to long term employees, nor communicating anything to the remaining employees nor the public about how many people have been let go, but it invites speculation about the company’s stability and prospects going forward. The other oil majors all are more forthcoming with what they are doing. Many tens of billions (at least) down the rat holes of oil sands and the all-in bet on natural gas, no Plan B for the current Black Swan, it’s starting to resemble a certain bunker mentality.

So true as the company already made up their mind about how many people they are targeting to get rid off already.
