ER is the START of layoffs , not the end
October is likely to have large global layoffs , not just cisco. we will be fighting for “longshanks sc-aps“ as the saying goes.

I agree, but this has been true for 30 years, and has become a much bigger problem with the growth of the internet.
Companies are going to start layoffs in October simply because they took free aid from the US taxpayers. By doing so, they could not reduce headcount until after Sept 30th. What do you think everyone did since April/May? Plan their October layoffs. Now for any open position there will be 5,000 people looking to fill it instead of 500. They can take the lowest requested salary that meets the skill level. Anyone out of work, at least in the tech industry, will need to swallow some pride and expect a 30-50% pay reduction. Along with remote work to be the norm, you are not longer competing with people in your general area. You are competing with people around the country and world.
