Thread regarding Pioneer Natural Resources Co. layoffs

Cruel

ok. We are all dying for information which is why these meager posts are getting so many hits. I think it is cruel how early they announced this without the slightest hint of transparency. Managers and supervisors are in the dark and IF they seriously do not intend to pursue their course of action till October then they simply should not have said anything till mid September. I think we are all adults and can handle knowing more from reliable sources. If I keep my job I cant help but feel like I'm going to have some serious PTSD about all this. Asking me to work from home and turn in 40 productive hours during covid is stressful enough but to have this hanging over our heads is immoral.

J Hall if you are reading this then for pitty sake rip off the bandaid already!!!

We have earned that much respect.

I looked myself. Scott's 08/10/2020 email was a WARN Act notice. The statute only requires that notice be in writing–not printed on some form with "WARN" stamped across the top. Any "reasonable method of delivery" suffices according to the Department of Labor.

Not a vp. I don't think you understand that layoffs are happening regardless. 2x work for those that stay is happening regardless. This happens to any company doing any layoffs. The only things left to decide are to either give you 2 months warning or 0 warning. The deciding factors/who stays may not even be decided yet. You're making a lot of assumptions. You are not entitled to a package unless it is in your contract. Personally, I am very happy that I have about 2 months to consider my options/create plans/apply for other jobs as a backup. What would be cruel would be for me to have 0 time to plan any of this, and having to worry about putting food on the table for my family.

There is no warn act notice provided. You can look yourself.

If you find putting in "40 productive hours" from home stressful, it might be time to consider a new career in part-time, hourly work. As to your gripe about premature notice–it's the law. For layoffs of this magnitude, the WARN act requires that employers provide 60 days notice, basically. The law's specific requirements are a bit more nuanced, but for purposes of quelling online bickering suffice it to say that MC & SS would have spared us these dreary two months given the choice. This s—s for everybody bottom to top and it's a consequence of statute, not sadistic leadership.

Clearly you must be a VP. Because you read with blinders on so you can only see enough to tow the company line. Nobody is saying the package is cruel. The 2 month wait is cruel, the lack of transparency, i.e. deciding factors in decision making process, is cruel. The NOT getting it over with already is cruel. Because IF we keep our jobs and do not like the 2x's double work we are doing then we get to go compete for jobs with the folks who have gotten the package. That is cruel.

You must be a landman to pay that little attention to detail

  1. 5x salary severance is above and beyond what most other companies will offer in a package. Now I may not agree with things that are happening right now, but these rounds of layoffs really are generous. They're giving you plenty of time to shop around for other jobs, maybe even outside the industry if you choose to do so. Other companies will put you out in the street with no notice, leaving you to wonder how you're going to feed your family a month from now. I understand this period is stressful for all of us, but this restructuring is anything but cruel.

They announced the very generous severance package at the start of the process which was being transparent. They wanted to let you know if you do get caught up in it, you should be well taken care of. Obviously potential change or losing your status quo causes anxiety for everyone but at least they let us know it's coming, the package is good, and hopefully they are trying to get it right this time.

And all the slackers get rewarded with a package. The workers get rewarded with more work, no bonus, no 401k match, what’s next? Reduced medical? Across the board salary reductions? Winning strategy for certain.

Poor performers will be awarded with a package. Top performers will be stuck doing meaningless work.

I agree, sort of. It is hard to compare good recruiting with good management with the raw talent managed by fools and nepotism. But there are great underutilized individuals at Pioneer. Im not complaining just do not see reason for the slow bleed happening in the company right now.

Very true, the brown nosers made their way in to management during the Tim Duff era. That is the real issue, not the employees. The majority of current employees don’t need to be managed.

Seriously though, PXD has the best people that have ever worked with. Worst management, but best people. I love you guys! I’m not crying, you’re crying.

All that is true. But if you think about it, with no bonuses coming up, you’re really not giving anything up for 1.5 years. Most of us should be able to get jobs within 6 months (granted not necessarily in Dallas). 1.5 years salary and stock is very generous whether you like it or not. Crying about being let go with that severance is entitled af.
