Well I guess EMM will be excluded from VIP.

Those Math Modelers organized got up and walked out for a week this company would paralyzed.

Find me a capable Math Modeler in this day and age who isn't working and I'll show you a unicorn.

This is global skill set that is in VERY high demand.

The only reason so many "critical" skills are mentioned is because PD is broken. You can't teach a broken process to newbies off the street. Instead of fixing the root cause, they put band aids on cancer. As much as an a&#@^ hole Jacques Nasser was, he had it right when he called out PD. To this day, it has never been fixed.

EMM = Electronic Math Modeling

There are whole organizations within PD that work on everything under the sheet metal —but that are critical to enable the vehicle to move. I am in one of those critical orgs that enable movement regardless of design.

They are the math modelers who work with the studio designers to develop the surfaces for appearance parts. All very talented folks.

This site tends to be used by IT folks (why is that?) so I'm not shocked that they don't understand PD processes.

I have been at Ford for 20+ years and also don't know what EMM is. Must not be "essential ".

I thought at least one M stood for mobility!!!

@1bdy
I've got 30, have worked in strategy, mfg, and program mgmt, and I also don't know what EMM is. It's obviously not as important as someone thinks it is.

"Must not be that critical because I have no idea what EMM is and I’ve worked in product dev for 20+ years at ford"

Hard to believe you could have worked in PD and not know who EMM or Corporate Design is.

There is only one reason ANY automotive company is in business and that's because of - Surface Change - nothing else matters and the entire business from day one is predicated on it.

You might find yourself on the "list" if you have been there 20 years in PD and do not know this.

If you don’t contribute critical skills, why are you being paid to be here?

It was the same thing for the Sabbatical "oh your considered Critical Skills" "we can't let you participate in that".

AWS same thing for years "oh we need you here Friday's"

me - oh really why is the parking lot half full on Fridays? "oh those folks are not considered critical skills"

me - are you kidding me, why are they being paid - why are they getting benefits/bonuses.

Where you getting that? They mention critical skills & company reserves the right who gets the offer. I guess that's worth thinking about. Just hope it's fair. Just because you have a brain shouldn't mean you are critical skill.
