Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

When to call chairman’s line

Has any called the chairman’s line about a group leader who supports racism and targeting at work? This manager has many complaints on them filed by associates they manage and nothing is done about it. It k–ls me to watch this happen at work and watch people get away with it.

Best to contact a labor lawyer and follow their advice. In the meantime, keep notes, gather evidence, record names of others who heard/saw/experienced it as well. This will all help during depositions. If the depositions contain enough, Fidelity will fold and offer a settlement under NDA.

I know of a HD that is openly racist and s-xist. Nothing has happened to him even after numerous complaints. Its not worth it to bring it up.

Unfortunately, Ned is no longer among the living, and won't be picking up the phone on the other end of the chairman’s line.

CL is for one purpose - protecting firm and family . Unless your complaint pertains to that, don't bother.

So much of this is true. Where is the EEOC?

If I had address the issue with my manager and felt strongly enough that the problem was not receiving proper attention I would call the Chairman's line. It would not be a choice taken lightly.

I will give an unconventional advise here. By my own experience, nobody will do anything in Fidelity. Fidelity is not a walk in the park and if you are in Fidelity time enough you know that the toxic people here are not amateurs. They are in Fidelity 5,10,15 years you have no chance against them.
The things get bad to you and they try to turn the table against you. So here is my unconventional suggestion: Go anyway and report it! It will maybe create a issue for you in short term but I would prefer this path to let a racist as a manager. Bad leaders create real problems. May not be you but someone that is passing for problems can take they own life because of this cr-p leadership.
As the folks said previously document everything and shoot.
Let they put the naughty list on the deserved place.

It is NOT anonymous. Be warned.

They are only there to ensure ZERO impact on the bottom line.

My experience at Fidelity was that management was always supported when complaints were lodged against them by subordinates. The subordinates always lost out and their lives were made even worse.

It's obviously just a gimmick since there is actually no longer a ChairMAN - they haven't even bothered to update the name.

I called the chairman’s line to complain about an abusive and toxic work environment. I noticed as soon as a few days afterwards my management was “Retaliating” and the work environment just got worse. It got so bad that I needed mental health therapy. So it back fired. They are hypocrites. They create the so called “Chairman’s Line” to cover their a-s but don’t care at all. Have considered a lawyer for the mental health abuse.

Awful choice to engage Chairman’s line or HR at Fidelity, it will only add to your stress and make your life much much worse.

When it comes to sh*t like this, take it deep and far: if no one at HR listens, write anonymously letters to clients and let them know of your experience.

Nothing freaks HR more than a rogue employee sending personal stuff to clients.

I can guarantee you your problem will get resolved immediately if you involve clients.

You need to re-read the thread. If you are looking to protect Fidelity from the actions of these people, then sure, call the CL (aka a senior person in HR). If you feel that you have been the subject of harrassment, etc, and want to determine your rights and protect your interests, get a good attorney and take it from there.

Trying to decide if it’s even worth the effort to contact the CL, but my manager and several of my coworkers must be into QAnon because they keep making overt comments about how great it is, saying negative things about the incoming administration, even in group emails, and without sarcasm, call each other “patriots.” It’s making everyone else on our team uncomfortable and my manager seems to enjoy pitting everyone against each other. I’m all for people having whatever political viewpoint, but it shouldn’t be a part of a professional meeting. It’s gotten a lot worse after what happened in D.C. Thoughts?

Thank you all so very very much for your responses to my OP. Gosh, I had no idea about the Chairman’s line, but that makes total sense. I raised it to HR solutions and finally the head of D and I and I was given a role in another department, in other words, be quiet and move on. Let’s not talk about this. It was incredibly frustrating because not one person listened. Thankfully I left on my own accord and to another competitor. To he**with them.

When it comes to serious, potentially illegal matters, HR is NEVER on your side fyi, They are there to protect the company's interest and reputation at all costs, and for good reason. IF you really want to know the ins and outs of HR and your options as an employee, please, please learn from an employment law attorney. Check out branigan robertson on youtube.

If what you are saying is true, I would file a report anonymously immediately. Try to get others involved too.

When you call the CL, Ned picks up on the other end. Usually you can hear the waves crashing on Nantucket Beach in the background.

I work for Fidelity. Few things... 1) the CL IS NOT anonymous. Once you access the form or call in to place the complaint your employee # will be monitored. 2) Your manager WILL be able see your complaint because HR is going to share it with him/her. 3) Both HR and your manager WILL try to find out who wrote the complaint.

Based on the above, the beat course of action is to write it anonymously and send it via letter to the CL address, including all the evidence.

If they retaliate, file a complaint immediately.

I’ve seen racist people removed before. The person documented everything (especially times of zoom calls where bad stuff was said because all of that can be pulled up). Good luck. There is no room for s-xism or racism at our company.

Gather evidence, names, dates, emails, witnesses, etc.)
Contact your own lawyer to review what you currently gathered.
Then approach Fido with allegations once your lawyer is happy with what you have gathered.

Like the poster earlier said, HR and CL are there to protect the firm - not you. From hiring to firing, HR serves one purpose - minimize risk to the firm. I too have complained to CL about unethical behavior, cooking of numbers etc - only to see the person get promoted twice. I guess it's seen as a welcome trait worthy of senior management. Be super careful about what you say and share. It will be used against you. Right after the legal time limit of retaliation is over. It happens more frequently than you can think of.

Chairman's Line sounds like it would be your ally. TRUST ME – it only exists to protect the firm, not you. It's not a special team, you will just speak to a senior person in HR.

I have experienced a situation first hand like you describe where it seems to be a clear cut case of someone doing something inappropriate and it resulted in absolutely no consequences to the offender after numerous people contacted the CL (in this case a branch manager having a s-xual relationship with a subordinate where EVERYBODY knew it was going on, and clearly against the rules). All they did was move the manager and subordinate to other branches / roles, meanwhile the morale of the team left behind was crushed.
