Allstate is not being transparent. Are you aware they closed all Claims offices in California only to transition to Arizona. The final California office closed on August 14th. They will not allow an employee to work in the state of California even remotely. Even if you work there and apply to an internal position it specifically states the position does not apply to California residents. They already closed other claims offices such as the Indiana MCO and the Las Vegas MCO and others even before this so-called announcement. Be prepared unless you are near the soon to be HQ’s or plan on following the company to these locations or are
director/officer you will be impacted. They are not being honest as they do not want to create mass histeria. So much for transparency.

When Allstate pulled out of California they told the California employees that they can transfer and keep their position as long as they transferred by a certain date. Once an employee provided notice to the company that they would take the transfer the employee was given 1day to report to the office in Arizona, unless they used pto’s to give them time to transfer all their belongings and set up a new place in AZ. The company also informed that the job in AZ was salary based and no longer hourly and ALL employees would be provided a laptop to work from home. People still transferred thinking that they wouldn’t have to work more than their 8 hours. Last I heard people in Major Rep were working 50-60 hours a week. No OT... this translates to a significant pay decrease when added up throughout the yr. And now all the people that transferred are being assessed for their jobs and even if they are kept through this lay-off...who knows about next time.. Doesn’t sound like a good deal to me.
Allstate would not hire any techs including DEs living in CA because we will have to pay them overtime if they worked more than 8 hours each day. At the DOC here, we are expected (implicitly) to work more than 8 hours to get our "points."
Absolutely correct, closing the entire state of California is only the beginning. Other states will follow leaving the four zones. There have been multiple lawsuits in others states not just California. Don’t think you are safe just matter of time. A lot of the work is being outsourced to India and Mexico. Just be prepared and hopefully you are not impacted. Everyone is replaceable and we are all just a number.
@exl.. there was nothing fake about california employees being told in 2017 that the office in AZ was to support the claims employees located in California and then in 2018 Allstate informed everyone they were closing all offices. There is no lie in that. And yes litigation and siu field people are working from home...for now.. litigation can be outsourced to vendors and OBVIOUSLY.. SIU who needs to have people in the field will be in california working from home.. EVERYONE else transferred or took the layoff..
Nebraska! The Omaha MCO was closed in 2011!
It is amazing how some people cannot keep their political views out of anything they type. Like little cult puppets they are. This is not a place for political ranting.
SIU personnel are still working for California, from home.
One point is Allstate is terrible at communication no matter the topic. Sure, the affected employees are told what is happening to their offices, when it’s happening, but the organization as a whole does not communicate well to the rest of the country/ world. Hence, the rumors and the need for a forum like this! Most claims office employees don’t even know where the other CSA /MCO’s are! It’s like a big secret. —let alone where Esurance offices are, National General, or Encompass, etc. It’s on a need to know basis and the employees as a whole don’t need to know. But hey, we are One Allstate and we care about people. Employees like to at least “feel” that they are “in on things “ Guess leadership forgot that. —Business management 101 folks.
I do not agree with your comment that we did not know about California Claims office closure. It was communicated back in 2018 and then early 2019 that they are closing the office and also paid a lot of money (I mean 5 digits) to people to relocate with caveat that they had to stay at the position for 2 years, if I heard it correctly. How I know? Because I was there and received the message when they communicated. The plan was to close it in 2019; however, they kept a skeleton office in California slowly phasing in closure and those stayed till the end had a choice and was not forced to stay. So, not true. Again, another ‘Fake News’ trying to sway people to think Allstate did not communicate. We all are impacted by this move, including myself; however, it is not fair when people are just flat right lying in this forum. Thank you to the individual who talked about the reasons why Allstate has decided to move out of California. Many large companies are moving out of California because of their labor laws and also difficulty of running business. One example I will give - some lawyer reached out to me just because I had Allstate Claims in my LinkedIn profile trying to coax me to join some lawsuit some employees at California brought up against the company. I had to report the person to LinkedIn and also block them. Also, other Insurance companies are following the same/similar changes and laying off people. Just my two cents.
To the OPs point and regardless of anyone’s personal opinion towards California and it’s politics towards business and what not... the company is not being honest to the employees about its moves. This is exemplified in the fact that the company told the adjusters in CA that they were not closing offices and then later closed all the offices... and anyone who thinks they will be able to avoid living in AZ, TX, Carolina or Florida is just fooling themselves... the point is the company is not being honest about its plans because they do not want panic and hysteria setting in and having a lot of people jump ship prior to the company being ready for it.
CA left litigation adjusters in CA to work from home. I think they also left field people. The Diamond Bar office was slated to close in Nov 2019, I think. The bulk of CA relocated or left in 2018.
Vegas closed last year in Aug, with notice of impending closure in April 2019. Offices have been closing since 2001. The only difference SINCE 2001 is that they also cut positions where they used to just say "you and your pending can relocate" or you can take the severance. This has been going on for nearly 20 years. I know, because I and many other people I know have been affected by these rolling closures.
You missed the point of the original poster.
Yes California closed but so will other offices. Some offices are already handling claims in other states. If you are not near a talent acquisition center from what I understand AZ, TX, OH or NC. You will eventually be asked to move or get released. You are are not seeing the big picture now, but it will be clear soon.
The company has been more than transparent about California. They had multiple employee lawsuits, the business environment is terrible (high taxes and regulations) and they have been reducing their presence there for the past 15 years. I can't say for the other states but it's been clear for a long time they want out of CA and who can blame them?
In a culture where things can be done remotely now there's no reason to have a claims organization there. Now techs are another issue and I think it's foolish if they get rid of the auto/property field folks. They can use 3rd party vendors I guess but that won't work out well in my opinion.
How can you blame any company for leaving California, which they are in droves. High taxes, crazy regulations and labor laws are not beneficial to the employee or the employer. I left and never looked back!
Allstate is retaliating with CA because their adjusters filed a class action. Too late for another lawsuit with this new arbitration clause.
Please keep your politics to yourself...
No one on this site cares about your political opinions..
You may think that we do and that you are that important..but you are not....
Can you advertise your gullibility somewhere else...or with your family...who “MAY” care???
Hi, my job was eliminated after 30 years this past February right before the pandemic blew up. They moved my divisions work to another state and now because of the pandemic they’re probably going to lay off all those people as well. The most frustrating thing was my leader ship was terrible towards the end and I was glad to go.
The announcement to California employees that they would no longer have a job at Allstate unless they relocated was made in May of 2018. It just took until August this year to complete the office closures.
California claims has been on the way out for years, only someone oblivious to the world would have missed that, we had people transferring from California to our office about 18 months ago and those employees specifically said they transferred because all the California claims offices were going to be closed.
@ nny. FYI... Allstate told California employees they were leasing an office in Arizona to assist LDU and express in California and specifically informed employees in California not to worry about California offices closing. 6 months after the office in Arizona was up and running and filled with their hand picked RCLs a and CSLs California employees were told that all offices in California are closing and they could either transfer to Arizona permanently or find another place to work.. thats the type of transparency the OP is talking about.
The plan to for Allstate to get out of California has been in place for over 3 years. They were transparent from the beginning. Gave employees the opportunity to take jobs is AZ. Maybe you missed the memo - but the company is not going to repeat themselves once it’s been communicated
Four “Zones” is what will be left. With India definitely and maybe Ireland. Claims will follow Sales structural locations. No need for small geographic claims offices. Too expensive, especially in the liberal cities. They don’t want to be there. Texas, Arizona, Florida, Nebraska are good for Allstate. The employees have less rights in those states. California was too employee friendly. Allstate is stuck in Chicago but they don’t want to be ! If they could leave Chicago they would !! Liberal cities are being destroyed by riots and civil unrest. Allstate wants no part of that. The assessments, the waiting it out, means nothing. Don’t forget TW said THOUSANDS would be let go for transformative growth. Many closures are coming. Don’t think you have a chance to keep your job because you got to take a personality puzzle test and weren’t laid off up front. It’s all smoke and mirrors to keep you motivated until the end. You will work very hard for that severance. Make no mistakes.
