Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

A perspective on today...

@JD.. when we asked for change, what we were really asking for is accountable leadership. Today it feels like we have simply moved from Friends of T and J, to Friends of H and M. Servant leadership, without accountability is another hollow powerpoint... without the powerpoint! um, ah, am ah... shoutout!

As for today's All Hands.... you spent more time talking about Drake and his music video. Whilst half the company worries about their future you made light of how much product Drake took on his overnight shopping spree... tone deaf?

@JS (DE&I)... he's the real deal. I hope he leads this company back into the light one day!

Read “leaders eat last” and you’ll find everything wrong with Nike and it’s leaders and why you’re better off without both.

@1xnz

I was "cursed" with having a specific skillset that I was pretty good at. I saw more than a few people who bluffed their way through everything get promoted over me. I decided that I'd join that club and it actually worked, but I realized I hated the phoniness and my skills were getting duller by the minute. Instead of wasting my time making my manager look good, I decided I need to focus on what was best for me and got out of there.

@xhx

Exactly my point. You think Nike is a "game," show up at happy hours, laugh at LT's jokes, and weasel your way up, lips covered red in koolaid. There is actually real work for some of us so the company is profitable – it's not a yes/no choice. It's work. Good for you that you don't have that. And good luck on the other end.

So has anyone had a manager or leader removed that is improving the org structure to be more efficient and effective? Is anyone making sense of the new improved structure???

@tvu: who/what is “probie orange”?

A key difference here, as opposed to the Problematic Perez debacle, and the eventual elevation of "Probie" ORANGE to Leadership, is that John knows that he is a "Chainsaw Al", and is happy to be paid to make the savage cuts that changing course to a Direct model entails.

John arrived successfully wealthy, already the same on paper as Mark was compensated for his many years, John will get a nice bump when ServiceNow is finally sold, he was designated as a Protector of the Swoosh Trust, he is a team player getting dirty, so that "Probie Orange" can manage for a good era without the stains. John will step aside, and if he so desires, will have a host of job offers to choose from.

Not minimizing the pain of these Layoffs, not judging the selection of who is being let go and who is not, but this is all Bucky the Book Keeper at his finest. $116.00, amazing.

The stock price has made the GRATS flush, Nike is pivoting to the right model, albeit 18 months later than they should have, retail, which Bucky always was suspect of, has disintermediated itself, and the competition, as they have done for over 25 years now, is delivering a combination of SEC investigation, slack jawed incompetence.

The Orange Family toughness, is exactly what #PHIL'SNIKEAGAIN demands, in the interim maybe "Probie" could go over and help TAK negotiate a decent deal for the studio, before the movie business becomes a Blacker Whole.

@gkx

You come off as one of those people who said "Yes" to everything and then complain when you see colleagues who know what the game is all about at Nike.

Lets be honest, the happy hour parties entertained those who didn't have real work/deadlines. You know, the same group who would leave the campus us 4:30 on a regular basis and didnt open their laptop until the next morning, we see you. It was rather obvious.

@tmz

Most people are perfectly happy with the status quo and would prefer a benevolent dictator over a leader who was fair, but required everyone to change their ways of thinking.

Is that what is bothering you guys - lack of free beer? There are BIGGER issues that require REAL and FUNDEMENTAL cultural changes. Come on...

Yep... I remember my first year at Nike feeling like a party. In hindsight it seemed like they realized not a lot of stuff gets done in the summer months, so why not have a party once a week? I mean, it was probably more of a distraction so workers weren't wondering why Sr. leadership were AWOL for months, but at least they put some effort into it.

Anybody out there remember "Thirsty Thursdays?".......yeah, me neither. All of that died along with the soul of the company (PHK/Charlie Denson/Gary Destefano).....I'm not looping in Mark Parker on this because he was part of the downfall of great culture.

I believe that we have known for a long time now that Nike C-Suit "leaders" do not care, at all, about any of us employees. However, if you have been doubting this fact, today's call should have nailed it for - YOU DO NOT MATTER. What a bloody sh—show that was, folks; so disappointing.
