Thread regarding Enterprise Rent-A-Car layoffs

Why are there so many jobs available?

Why are there so many available positions currently at Enterprise Rent-A-Car? If you don't believe me, just google it. So why are we hiring after so many people have been laid off or are still waiting to be called back from being furloughed?

People running this company should be ashamed of themselves.

Wait until the financial collapse and people start to run amok, law enforcement is stretched to the point of ineffectiveness.

It is at that time to seek revenge!

Most people at Enterprise started right out of college. So they don't know the difference between a wannabe like Enterprise and a real top-notch, professional company. The pay at Enterprise is low and the culture is junior high.

When I left Enterprise as an MT, I was making $45,000 after four years. I went to a Fortune 500 company and made $93,000 the first year in sales. Don't waste your time at Enterprise, it is a pretend company. You can all do better.

It has recently become clear in my old group that they furloughed and fired the higher paid career employees. Now they are only hiring entry level employees (MTs) or car preps–and paying them a lot less than those positions were making before covid.

In my old group they also definitely, 100% knew people were going to be laid off well before those people were told. I have documents that prove it. They didn't want to risk those people damaging the business or the cars or having time to gather evidence to prove their behavior was bordering on, if not completely, illegal. They also made people sign a multiple page legal document agreeing to waive all rights to sue the company in order to get severance.

If you didn't sign one, call a lawyer. Enterprise would almost always rather pay out an individual than risk negative press by going to court. I personally saw it multiple times in my years there. Every single suit was absurd. The RVP or GM would throw thousands of dollars at them to sign a confidentiality agreement and go away forever. I saw it happen with employees and customers.

It’s funny, a lot of people that are left are being told it’s because they are rockstars. Ha! As you gain tenure, be very afraid the next time there is a downturn! Enterprise is a terrible company, that treated their employees like dirt. They’re also outsourcing a ton of IT(not staff aug, completely outsourcing) and automating more than ever. I’d be afraid if I was still there. I’m now at a stable company, with way better benefits and pay than EHI. I was the biggest advocate for EHI, they are dirty and showed their true colors.....

The company did layoffs to weed out employees they couldn't get rid of legally. So it happened some were called back and that was the plan. People that weren't eligible for rehire they had already been chosen not to come back

Honestly, your be better off staying on government assistance rather than come back to work here. This place is a giant mess. As others said, it’s just about saving a buck, they don’t care about the people they’ve worked into the ground for years! This company is embarrassing to work for. No one will think you’re cool or successful if you’re employed here. You’re ALL too good to be treated like this! Please leave - the grass is greener!!

PS NO ONE will be making any money here bonus-wise for a LONG time. Everyone is cutting costs and travel has come to a stand still. If you choose to stay, you’re going to live in fear. Feel empowered and get out of dodge!!!!

I was an employee for 6 years and a BM for the last 3.5 years. I was told on my lay off phone call that I could reapply but would start back as an MT. I didn’t even consider coming back. Now they have all these MT positions open so they can hire new people and promote whoever is left at a lower pay plan. The whole system was completely unfair. I know several employees in my group that had worked for 10 years or more and were laid off.

This is a horrible company. They did not take care of their employees during this terrible time and tossed people to the curb like garbage. I don’t want to hear any excuses defending them like “oh they did the best they could” or “they didn’t anticipate this happening.” Enterprise is one of the wealthiest private companies in America and they couldn’t go one month before lay offs. I mean, look at how much better other companies have handled it. Southwest Airlines is a great example - that company literally values every single employee and puts THEM first. Sure, some airlines had fed bailout, but still.

All the actions Enterprise took contradict what they say. They used these lay offs as a disguise to get rid of certain people that they didn’t want or see a future with and hand picked “their favorites” to come back. If the lay offs really were due to covid and the economic downturn, why are they hiring all these MTs and not being back the laid off employees who had their health insurance cut off and been at home suffering the last 6 months? Nothing but lies.

I was hired as a full time driver in January. I didn't get the two weeks pay at the beginning of the shutdown because in late February I was injured on the job and on temporary total disability with reduced pay. When I was cleared to return to work, they told me I was on unpaid leave. After 90 days on leave my benefits ended and I was billed for unpaid premiums during that period. I have not been able to get a response about my current status. I don't expect a call and I've moved on.

To the person saying all years of service count if you are hired back...false. It stated right in our layoff notification after 90 days passed and you reapplied you would be treated as a newbie. Only if you were hired back under 90 dats did that apply.

As an eight year employee of Enterprise, my opinion, for whatever it's worth:

The list of people furloughed in my group included some of the most tenured and respected employees in the entire group, all the way from RVPs to department heads and BRMs. Who was furloughed seemed to be decided at random. Chrissy was too new to handle a crisis of this magnitude and left the decisions to the groups, and it led to a free for all of petty grievances being settled by pink slip. The most telling thing to me is the group PROMOTED the RVPs who they didn't fire a couple months after firing hundreds of employees back in March in April. I don't think the furloughs and firings were about the business and personnel costs as much as it was about clearing the board of anyone the level 3s and 4s didn't like. I think that's why you're seeing a lot of job openings now. They simply fired too many people because the people in charge wanted to get rid of anyone who could be considered competition for a position in the future or they just wanted to get rid of people they didn't like. Now they will backfill with entry level employees who will be cheaper and don't have the same baggage as the career employees who they furloughed at random and/or fired without real cause. Definitely not a company I would recommend doing business with in the future based upon how they treated the employees during COVID. The third generation of the Taylors just drove the company's brand off a cliff with how she (didn't) handle this.

Are there people still furloughed? I’m under them impression that has been resolved. If there are, it’s because those people aren’t a god match for the areas where they need more people. Tough decisions were made quickly months ago without knowing what the future looked like. I’m sure there are people who didn’t want to return. There is also the issue of fairness. If 7 people who had the same job title got let go, and now they feel like they need 4 people doing that job it’s not really fair to pick 4 former employees to offer those spots to. They can and should allow allow all of them to apply. That really is how all of their job postings are supposed to work.

BTW, if you are rehired, your previous years of service count. You don’t just start over as a year one employee.

I was told by HR to check the public postings and not to expect a call were my position to become open. I’d have to apply like I was was never an employee. This was at one of the corporate campuses.
