My GM is always on a "conference call" that also includes video calls with the kids and other GMs in their office. I feel like maybe if we got some support, we wouldn't have a bad morale in our store.

Micro management is and always has been their way. Most DMs were at one point an SS that moved up and learned the way of Verizon retail management. These are not “leaders” with an education in people management. They’re leading you and themselves out of a job at the direction of Directors and VPs.
Problem is all gm’s, dm’s and directors are micro managers ....they need to be macro managers!! Put the right people in place and let them do their job....the north east is notorious micro management

GM: Do you think your job is unique? Do you think it is a craft or some trade requiring training? Because it is not!
Make no mistake about it. A GM role could be done by 80% of the reps out there, and that is a conservative estimate. People get promoted to that role based on prior working relationships, and nepotistic reasons.
If you think that role is some skilled trade that only the elite could do than you think too highly of yourself and when your store closes I pity the day you hit the job market.
I do agree the amount of calls are insane. Like write it in a freaking email. I think the increase of calls it a lot of the upper people working from home desperately trying to stay relevant. Explain why a market president needs to deliver a message two like 5 different people before it gets to the people it relates to. Calls most of the time are just a big circle jerk "hey guys check out this powerpoint"

Oh please sms are also useless... no one in management is needed. Give us all keys and we will handle the customers as we already do

I don’t trust or believe anyone in this company that has a higher pay grade than an SM.

@Well. You are obviously a GM or just naive. I’m with the rest of the retail employees who work.
GM’s FaceTime their kids and spouses, plan doctor appointments, check company work chats, scroll social media, play candy crush, call other GM’s, and maybe talk to their boss once a day. All of this happens in an 8 hour shift.
Can you imagine the level of exhaustion? Telling SM’s to do demo counts and check boxes in while not knowing the answer to any question a rep asks you.
A majority of them are lifers waiting for their store to close or get turned indirect. Can you imagine when asked what you do for a living; “I tell people to put screen protectors on.”
Thats been the culture in the stores for years! I've had Gms that never worked nights or Sundays!Ever! The people they have hired as Store managers and SMs have been mostly from the "heavy hitters" who slammed their way into the position! These people usually have no retail management background or experience. Now with most of these reps not around anymore, I wonder how the Gms hire for that position? Oh yes they can still track individual kpis because they can track by your sales id.(the store should have 1 sales id for "true Team selling '.)So whats changed? Nothing! Just like the pandemic. Nothing! I think its way too late for change

I’m an Sm and had to cover these calls when my gm was out. Believe me the stress and unrealistic goals we are really supposed to hit and having to explain why we can’t makes me want to stay as an sm and never go to gm. What happens in that office isn’t pleasant, but I too thought that way when I was a rep so I don’t fault ya for it. This company wants to focus on the customer but also please still force customers and harass to buy because if you don’t it’s a disservice, blah blah blah money grabbers.
SM's are the backbone of retail that is a fact. Gm and above are useless and overpaid.
