Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron culture could use a facelift?

I left CVX San Ramon after 11 years and it was the best decision ever. Never looked back. I am with Netflix now. I hope some CVX managers can read into this and apply some learnings. CVX is in dire need for a major cultural shift. They won't survive as I keep in touch with my SR friends and they tell me the cluster f—ups going in there.

I can speak about tech (not other businesses). In fairness to the OP, I do know friends & family who works in top Bay Area companies that will NEVER review resumes at companies like CVX. As an experienced hire, CVX is definitely a nice place to be for work life balance... but to be being "competitive" outside? No way... I actually struggled and shocked how slow CVX is in IT. I also know a person moved to Tesla and also said that CVX is a dinosaur. Also to be fair, tons of CVX lifers has never worked outside of Chevron - how do they compare themselves? So I have empathy with that.

So if you want to have work life balance and get decent pension, 401k match and hope u dont get hit by layoff, CVX is the best... if you want to be always competitive industry wide in IT - it's not the place.

Facelift? You need to look into the Netflix mirror and ask yourself what facelift that company needs? The garbage they promote and sell is nothing short of evil.

@1jok, That's a sign of a resentful person who regrets their decision, not a happy, content one.

Maybe he is trying to rub it in?

The OP obviously regrets his/her decision and cannot get over leaving CVX and all the people that he/she misses, better benefits at Chevron, etc. Otherwise there is no reason for this post. Please quit cry-babying and get on with your life, OP. You made the decision, now live with it. Many people are leaving now with fat healthy severance packages, and can do what you did and more. You missed it by cutting out too early and it's obvious.

OP looking back at chevron is similar to me thinking about my ex girlfriend ie., did she downgrade/upgrade since we split, did she get fat, or does she swing for the other team because her company's CDO forced her too.

So nothing wrong with the OP coming back to a cvx related forum.

Good for you n flix.

Pretty hateful msgs here from the trenches suggest you made the right decision.

It’s ok to look back at a dumpster fire.. just keep the foot on the gas.

Onward and upward!

OP: You said leaving CVX was the best decision you’ve ever made and you’ve never looked back. Your first two sentences are in contradiction. Doesn’t the fact that you are in a website that discusses CVX contradict your statements? Stated differently, why the hell are you on this site to talk about CVX if you, as you allege, never looked back? Might you have lingering resentments about CVX you need to get off your chest? If so you’re in the right company of people. Let it out, sweetie.

What is the purpose of your post? I get it, you work at Netflix now and are as happy as a puppy with two peters.

But why are you still scanning the lay-off boards from an employer you left years ago? Did you really never get over it?

Move on! Enjoy your time at Netflix! Don’t keep coming back. You’ll never grow with your new position if you never get over your old one.
