Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Folks who were "forced" to retire prior to EOI

Anyone know of people who were told they weren't eligible for EOI because they have previously announced their retirement. I know some folks were still approved for EOI after having their replacements named and in place and other folks were not approved. Seems very inconsistent depending on operating company. Wondering if any of the folks not approved are seeking recourse.

Get an attorney if you were unjustly terminated.

It takes a heck of a lot of bad performance on your part to get fired at Chevron. First you have to get 3 at your PMP , then the next year you don't meet your goals . The only other way I know of is for gross violation of company policies. (inappropriate behavior, shouting, stealing etc)

@3svvm - quite the contrary, I retired for approx. 2 years then went back to work part time with full benefits. Great decision and I had a good resume chock full of years of quality experience and credentials, I have never been fired or terminated. I didn't have to lie on my resume or do any awkward explaining. In addition, the person in the example was going to be fired, and wasn't retiring at all, wasn't ready to retire, was only encouraged to do so on paper. Not sure what you are trying to point out, do you even have a legitimate point other than revealing that you are an ignorant simpleton troll without a life?

Jeez I never thought about what to put on my resume but given I was planning on retiring and not looking for another job what I put n my resume would be completely irrelevant. You really should consider if you have the mental acuity to be posting on this site!

Do us all a favor and go troll somewhere else.

If you are that poor of an employee that you are about to be terminated, or fired, and they are doing it at the time of the lay-offs which include severance, then that's on you. There is no situation that they can or will or have "forced you to retire". If they fire you without severance, then that's purely on you. That's totally different. I think some employees are confusing the two things. If they allowed you to "respectfully" treat it as officially a retirement by encouraging you to turn in your retirement paperwork instead, that is a FAVOR that they are doing for you, and it looks better on your resume. Consider it a gift. The alternative is that you were about to be $hit-canned for appropriate justification so you get fired, no severance, and you can put that on your resume, or you will have to lie on it. Which would you prefer?

I would really like to speak with you directly if that is somehow possible. I just verbalized my thoughts on retirement and never submitted any paperwork of any kind and when I was told I had to retire or I would be terminated, I was terminated and with no EOI. If you are willing to speak with me and know how to make contact without all the shallow trolls on this site interfering please let me know. Thanks

For those who are saying that if you didn’t submit any retirement paperwork or fill out the online retirement tool through benefits connect and submit it that you will still get the EOI from Chevron I’m telling you that you are absolutely incorrect. I mentioned to my colleagues including my supervisor that I was thinking about retiring next year and when I didn’t I was very specifically told via and email from my HR Manager that if I did not voluntarily retire by a certain date, even though I did not submit any paperwork of any kind, I would be terminated. When I refused to voluntarily retire I was terminated so please if you are just commenting because you want to stir things up, don’t!

  1. S. I have the very e-mail that states exactly what I just stated!!

No, because there are none. Retirement is voluntary. Getting laid off is not.

"impossible to draw a clear line"... nonsense. Submitting paperwork to HR is a legal action. Period. Chatting about plans with co-workers or even direct reports does no define a legally binding intent. There is no grey.

If you mean retire, the amount of EOI is round-off error for anyone who has realised recently if they have, let's say 35 years of service. The pension, and if maxed out the 401k, there is close to 3 million$ there depending on PSG. Better to just leave sooner!

I told a few folks my intent to retire but didn't' hand in paper work and then layoffs were announced and I'm getting EOI. Its quite straightforward, stop channeling tin foil/biden lunacy its boring

It's impossible to draw a clear line, those submitted the paperwork, those retired before announcement, those retired last year, and etc.
Life is not fair, but we have our choice to fight the system or move on with your retirement...

Those that requested and turned in their paperwork to retire prior to EOI were not eligible because a retirement date was received/locked in at that point. Those that verbalized a retirement are eligible because no paperwork was ever executed with HR.

The difference is some people verbalized a desire to retire while other people actually put in there paperwork to retire pre eoi. The folks who put in their paperwork formal pre eoi will not be able to get the eoi.

I find this hard to believe. I know a couple people who said they were going to retire this year and then they announced EOI. It was just like an extra Christmas present for them.

They did nothing to prevent them from getting it.
