Dell laying off a "small percent" is a lot of people considering 160,000 employees....5% = 8000 people impacted and its surely to be mostly US where labor protections are lax compared to overseas. Its sad, their stock is up 30% YTD, Michael Dell's net worth has steadily increased to $30 Billion, Clark has been there 25 years so his net worth is easily over $100M, Dell's last 2 or 3 quarters have been good, instead of riding this out by looking after the team who got them where they are they are back to just looking at short term profits. Sad..use to be a really great company.
I heard big cuts are coming to IT departments as they are cost centers and good candidates for outsourcing.

As stated earlier "Solid Quarter, delivered revenue, operating income, earnings per share and cash flow" not to mention stock is doing great. Result...headcount reduction?
