Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

RE-ORG HELL

Its going to be an interesting next 6 weeks. Now that Chevron has slashed contractors rates by 20%, they are now targeting the employees. I heard that all operations is being outsourced to a preferred vendor..but whats that mean for current contractors and their agencies?

Preferred Vendor is nothing new... Companies like Pacific Bell (AT&T) or other bells use managed service like Amdocs for well over 20 years now.... We also used it in Central IT all the time (service desk) The BIGGEST problem with CVX is how they make these guys accountable and make sure they don't send us to the cleaners when they get the contract. Based on what I"m seeing with current contractors, because we don't have strong deep technical IT bench... they can literally say whatever they want on issues w/ big projects or operational changes, hire the cheapest, greenest developers offshore... and most CVX employees and management could not challenge them...

Imagine if an SME gets severance , walks out door and the password for some mission critical servers are lost. No you say! you'd better believe it

Be glade you are contracting here. All other O&G company’s have cut contractors pay by 100%. Don’t cray about 20%. You are a free agent go find somewhere else who will pay you more then 80% and stop complaining.

I sure do. Still when you have been there as a contractor for 10 years, you start to feel like part of the team. And no, we are not making "more". No benefits, no time off, no retirement, no bonus....just a paycheck, not to mention a 20% decrease.

Regardless, its all s—y.

Do you not realize that the whole point of using contractors is to scale them up or down with minimal hassle? That's why they get paid more on a pure wage hourly basis. Comes with the territory!
